Thomas P. Burnett claimed a scat, but was rejected by a vote of the Council, as the appointment of members belonged exclusively to the Executive of the Ter ritory. + Scat successfully contested by George McWilliams. Second Session of the First Legislative Assembly, 1837-8, Convened at Burlington, Des Moines County, Nov. 6, 1837, and adjourned Jan. 20, 1838. COUNCIL. President-ARTHUR B. INGRAHAM, of Des Moines. In place of H. S. Baird, resigned Mr. Dickinson's seat was contested and vacated; replaced by Alex. J. Irwin t In place of James B. Dallam. In place of James H. Lockwood. Mr. Quigley resigned his seat on the 17th of January, 1838, for cause arising out of McGregor's case, wherein he felt his dignity as a member overlooked and unsupported by the House. Mr. McGregor was elected in place of H. T. Camp, deceased. Was charged with having accepted a bribe at this session, and resigned his seat while the inves tigation was pending; but by a resolution of the House, at its June session, he was declared "unworthy of confidence" by a vote of the House. |
