(21) Maintaining a stand of trees in a windbreak.-Maintaining a good stand of at least 250 trees per acre by cultivating sufficiently to control other vegetation, protecting from fire and grazing and replanting if necessary. This practice is applicable only on stands planted between January 1, 1941 and January 1, 1946.-$3.00 per

acre.

CUT-OVER AREA PRACTICES

The cut-over area includes the following counties: Aitken, Anoka, Becker, East Polk, Beltrami, Benton, Carlton, Cass, Chisago, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Douglas, Hubbard, Isanti, Itasca, Kanabec, Koochiching, Lake, Lake of the Woods, Mahnoman, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Otter Tail, Pennington, Pine, Ramsey, Red Lake, Roseau, St. Louis, Sherburne, Todd, and Wadena.

(22) Clearing Land for Tillage on Farms with Less than 60 Acres of Cropland.-Clearing land and preparing it for growing a crop by removing all loose stones, stumps, underbrush,, forest tree growth, and leveling hummocks. Approval must not be given where the land to be cleared is now supporting a stand of merchantable timber, where it is clear that definite erosion hazards will result, where it appears that it would be necessary to remove large quantities of stones annually, where drainage problems will not be corrected before the end of the program year, or where the soils of the land to be cleared are not equal to or superior to the soil now under cultivation on the farm. No credit will be given if the estimated cost of clearing is less than $20.00 or if the land is not plowed prior to January 1, 1947.— $10.00 per acre.

(23) Clearing Land for Pasture.-Clearing land for the establishment of pasture by uprooting and removing all shrubs and forest tree growth, leveling hummocks, carrying out an adequate system of mowing and removing loose stones. Tree growth sufficient to provide shade for livestock may be left in the pasture area. Approval must not be given unless the county committee determines that the pasture when established will be capable of carrying at least one animal unit for each two acres during a pasture season of at least four months. Credit will not be given unless liming materials, fertilizer, and seed are applied in necessary amounts. Credit for these materials may be given under Practices (1), (2) or (17). No credit for this practice. may be given if the estimated cost of the clearing is less than $10.00 per acre.-$5.00 per acre.

C. POOLING AGREEMENTS

Producers in any local area may agree in writing, with the approval of the County and State Committees, to cooperatively perform the following practice on one or more of the farms operated by such producers, provided all of their farms are benefited by the performance of such practice: Practice (13), Construction or Enlargement of Open Farm Drainage Ditches. Instructions for carrying out a Pooling Agreement are contained in NCR-46-2.

1946 CREDIT RATES FOR LIMING MATERIALS
AND GYPSUM

Following are the liming materials for which the credit rates
are the same throughout the State:

The credit rate for gypsum is 50 cents per 100 pounds in the following counties: Becker, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Hubbard, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, and Wadena.

The following are the credit rates for the other liming materials for which credit will be given in your county. The rates for limestone, blast furnace slag, and carbide refuse are on a ton basis and the rates for marl, paper mill refuse and sugarbeet refuse are on a cubic yard basis.
