STATEMENT OF HON. ANDREW YOUNG, U.S. PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO THE UNITED NATIONS

ACCOMPANIED BY CHARLES WILLIAM MAYNES, ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONAL AFFAIRS, DEPARTMENT OF STATE

1979 APPROPRIATIONS 1980 BUDGET REQUESTS

Senator HOLLINGS. During our hearings on March 1 with regard to the amounts requested by the State Department for contributions to international organizations, Senator Laxalt asked that we have a special informational hearing on the United Nations.

The total amount requested for contributions to the international organizations and conferences is $502,945,000, of which 81.8 percent is for the contributions to international organizations. The United Nations and specialized agencies account for almost three-fourths of the U.S. con-tributions to international organizations.

We are pleased to have with us today to give us further information, with regard to the United Nations, Hon. Andrew Young, U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, who is accompanied by . Charles William Maynes, the Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizational Affairs.
