all men to be received, That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. 1 Tim. 1. 15.

Hear also what Saint John saith.

If any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He is the Propitiation for our sins. 1 S. John 2. 1, 2.

Then is said or sung by the Priest:
V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.

THE SURSUM CORDA

V. Lift up your hearts.

R. We lift them up unto the Lord. V. Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.

R. It is meet and right so to do.

Then shall the Priest turn to the Lord's Table, and say:

Tis very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God.

Then follows the Proper Preface, if there be one. Upon Christmas-day, and seven days after.

Therefore with Angels, &c.

Upon Ascension-day, and seven days after.

TH

"HROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord; according to Whose most true promise, the Holy Ghost came down as at this time from heaven, with a

sudden great sound, as it had been a mighty wind, in the likeness of fiery tongues, lighting upon the Apostles, to teach them, and to lead them to all truth; giving them both the gift of divers languages, and also boldness with fervent zeal constantly to preach the Gospel unto all nations; whereby we have been brought out of darkness and error into the clear light and true knowledge of Thee, and of Thy Son Jesus Christ. Therefore with Angels, &c. Upon the Feast of Trinity only, may be said. HO art one God, one Lord; not one only Person, but three Persons in one Substance. For that which we believe of the glory of the Father, the same we believe of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, without any difference or inequality. Therefore with Angels, &c.

BWord made Flesh, a new ray of

Thy glory has shone upon the eyes of our minds; that while we know God

On the Epiphany, and through the Octave.

ECAUSE that when Thine only

in substance of our flesh, He restored unto us life and light by the new light of His immortality. Therefore with Angels, &c.

WHO

HO by this our bodily fast dost overcome the lust_within us, dost raise our minds unto Thyself, and dost give unto us not only strength but also the promise of a heavenly reward; through Christ our Lord. Through Whom the Angels praise, the Dominations adore, and the Powers fear Thy Majesty; the Heavens also and the heavenly Virtues, and the blessed Seraphim glorify it in common exultation. With whom, we beseech Thee, bid that our voices may be admitted in suppliant praise. Therefore with Angels, &c.

From Passion Sunday up to Maundy Thursday, also at Masses of the Cross, the Passion, the Sacred Heart, and of the Precious Blood.

WHO by the tree of the Cross didst

give salvation unto mankind ; that whence death arose, thence life

also might rise again; that he Who by a tree once overcame, might likewise by a tree be overcome; through Christ our Lord. Through Whom (the rest as in Lent).
