PSALM CXXXIX.

1. LORD, Thou hast search'd and seen me through;
Thine eye commands with piercing view
My rising and my resting hours,
My heart and flesh with all their powers.

2. My thoughts, before they are my own,
Are to my God distinctly known;
He knows the words I mean to speak
Ere from my op'ning lips they break.

3. Within thy circling power I stand;
On every side I find thy hand;
Awake, asleep, at home, abroad,
I am surrounded still with God.

4. Amazing knowledge, vast and great!
What large extent! what lofty height !
My soul, with all the powers I boast,
Is in the boundless prospect lost.

5. O may these thoughts possess my breast,
Where'er I rove, where'er I rest;
Nor let my weaker passions dare
Consent to sin, for God is there !

WATTS.

PSALM CXIX.

1. LORD, we have wander'd from Thy way,
Like foolish sheep have gone astray;
Our pleasant pastures we have left,
And of their guard our souls bereft :

2. Expos'd to want, expos'd to harm,
Far from our gentle Shepherd's arm ;
Nor will these fatal wand'rings cease,
Till Thou reveal the paths of peace.

3. O seek thy thoughtless servants, Lord,
Nor let us quite forget Thy word;
Our erring souls do Thou restore,
And keep us that we stray no more.

STERNHOLD.

PSALM CXXXVIII.

1. WITH all my pow'rs of heart and tongue
I'll praise my Maker in my song;
Angels shall hear the notes I raise,
Approve the song, and join the praise.

2. Angels that make Thy Church their care,
Shall witness my devotions there;
While holy zeal directs my eyes

To Thy fair temple in the skies.

3. I'll sing Thy truth and mercy, Lord;
I'll sing the wonders of Thy Word;
Not all Thy works and names below
So much Thy power and glory show.

1. My God, and is Thy table spread?

And does Thy cup with wine o'erflow?
Thither be all Thy children led,

And let them all its sweetness know.

2. Hail, sacred feast, which Jesus makes;
Rich banquet of His flesh and blood!
Thrice happy he who here partakes
That sacred stream, that heav'nly food.

3. Oh, let Thy table honour'd be,

And furnish'd well with joyful guests;
And may each soul salvation see,

That here its sacred pledges tastes.
4. Drawn by Thy quick'ning grace, O Lord,
In thronging numbers let us come,
And gather, from our Father's board,
The bread that lives beyond the tomb.

5. Nor let Thy spreading glory rest,

Till through the world Thy truth has run,
Till with this bread all men be blest,
Who see the light or feel the sun.

1. SPIRIT of Power, and Truth, and Love,
Oh, shed Thine influence from above;
And still from age to age convey
The wonders of this sacred day!

2. In ev'ry clime, by ev'ry tongue,
Be God's eternal glory sung;

Through all the listening earth be taught
The deeds our great Redeemer wrought.

3. Unfailing Comfort, heavenly Guide,
Still o'er Thy favour'd Church preside;
Still may mankind Thy blessings prove,
Spirit of Power, and Truth, and Love!

4. Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

1. GREAT God, this sacred day of Thine
Demands our souls' collected pow'rs;
Joyful may we to Thee resign

These solemn, these devoted hours.
Oh, may our souls adoring own
The grace that calls us to Thy throne.

2. Hence, ye vain cares and trifles, fly;
Where God resides, disturb no more.
Omniscient God, Thy piercing eye
Can ev'ry secret thought explore.
Oh, may Thy grace our bosoms move,
And fix our thoughts on things above.

3. Thy Spirit's pow'rful aid impart,

And bid Thy Word with life divine
Engage the ear, and warm the heart,
Then shall the day indeed be Thine;
Then shall our souls adoring own
The grace that calls us to Thy throne.
