1. JESU, Refuge of my soul,
Let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the raging billows roll,
While the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Saviour, hide,
Till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide;

O receive my soul at last!

2. Other refuge have I none,

[ocr errors]

Hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stay'd,
All my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenceless head

With the shadow of Thy wing.

3. Plenteous grace with Thee is found,
Grace to pardon all my sin:
Let the healing streams abound,
Make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art;
Freely let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart,
Rise to all eternity.

C. WESLEY.

1. SEE the leaves around us falling,

Dry and wither'd, to the ground, Thus to thoughtless mortals calling With a sad and solemn sound:'Sons of Adam-once in Eden,

Where, like us, he blighted fellHear the lesson we are reading; Mark the awful truth we tell!

2. Ye, on length of days presuming,
Who the paths of pleasure tread,
View us,-late in beauty blooming,-
Number'd now among the dead."
On the tree of life eternal

Oh let all our hopes be laid:
This alone, for ever vernal,

Bears a leaf that shall not fade.

Hail, Abraham's God and ours!

We join the heav'nly lays;

Thine are the heavens, with all their powers,

And endless praise.

OLIVER.
