1. GLORIOUS things of thee are spoken,

Zion, city of our God !
He, whose word cannot be broken,

Form'd thee for His own abode ;
On the Rock of Ages founded,

What can shake thy sure repose ?
With salvation's walls surrounded,

Thou may'st smile at all thy foes.

2. There the streams of living waters,

Springing from eternal love,
Well supply thy sons and daughters,

And all fear of want remove:
Who can faint, when that full river

Ever flows their thirst t' assuage?
Blessings, like the Lord, the giver,

Never fail, from age to age.

3. Blest are all in thee residing,

Wash'd from sin through Jesus' blood, -
He, within their hearts abiding,

Makes them kings and priests to God :
'Tis His pow'r His people raises,

Over self to reign as kings ;
And, as priests, their solemn praises
Each for a thank-off'ring brings.

NEWTON.

1. BLEST Redeemer ! power in heaven

And in earth to Thee is given ;
Teach us, Lord, aright to pray,

Lead and guide us in Thy way. 2. Lo! we make Thy paths our choice,

Grace we ask t’ obey Thy voice;
Grace to follow where Thy hand

Points the way, or bids us stand. 3. Counting all things loss for Thee,

May we ever watchful be;
Lest the world or sin ensnare,

Lest we tread where others dare. 4. Faith and patience, Lord, impart,

Meekness, wisdom, strength of heart;
Day by day our need supply,
Till we rest with Thee on high.

1. COME, O Saviour, long expected,

Born to set Thy people free ;
From our guilt and fear protected,

We shall find our rest in Thee.

2. Israel's strength and consolation,

Hope of all the saints Thou art;
Blest desire of ev'ry nation,

Joy of ev'ry waiting heart. 3. Born Thy people to deliver ;

Born a child, and yet a king;
Born to reign in us for ever,

Now Thy gracious kingdom bring. 4. By Thine own eternal Spirit,

In our hearts rule Thou alone;
By thine all-sufficient merit,

Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
