Summary of Christian Doctrine
J. R. ALEX. CHINNERY-HALDANE, D.D.,
Bishop of Argyll and the Isles.
ST. GILES PRINTING COMPANY.
T will be very evident to those who read the following
instructions that they are primarily intended for young persons and for beginners. And yet perhaps this little book may fall into the hands of some, who though well informed with regard to the things of this life, are nevertheless conscious of a want, and who feel that they have not yet apprehended clearly, those first principles of the Doctrine of Christ, which are so essential, before we can go on unto perfection.
Among such persons, it may be, that here and there one will be found who is willing to humble himself and even to become as a little child, in order that he may enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. In such cases, the gracious working of the Holy Spirit may be clearly recognised. For it is He Who leads men and women to respond to the blessed invitation of that Divine Teacher Who said, “I thank Thee O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because Thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and has revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Thy sight. All things are delivered unto Me of my Father, and no man knoweth the Son but the Father, neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him. Come unto ME all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.”
“He that cometh unto Me shall never hunger and he that believeth in Me shall never thirst."
