5 THIRTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA Columbia, S. C., December 23, 1920. Governor Robert A. Cooper, Executive Office, Columbia, S. C. Sir: In accordance with law, I have the honor to submit the thirteenth annual report of the Insurance Department of South Carolina. This report contains a list of all insurance companies licensed to do business in the State and a condensed statement of the financial condition of these companies and the business transacted by them as shown by their reports filed with this Department in accordance with law. The tables have been compiled with a view to giving the greatest amount of desirable information with the smallest use of space and figures. A statement of the license fees and taxes received and turned over to the State Treasurer indicates the increased volume of business handled by this Department. PREMIUMS. A recapitulation of reports and statements shows an increase of total premiums received in the transaction of business in this State during 1919 over the figures for 1918 of $4,673,536.87. Insurance premiums paid by the citizens of this State during the year 1919 aggregate $21,640,202.58, segregated for further information into the following classes: Miscellaneous insurance premiums (including all classes of business other than fire and life): Losses paid by companies operating in the State during the showing an increase over 1918 of $1,649,862.45. You will observe that the figures above quoted are obtained by compiling reports of insurance companies filed with this Department as of December 31st, annually, so that the figures available for the current year's business will not be filed until some time subsequent to the printing of this report. REVENUE. The revenue collected by this Department and paid into the State Treasury has increased yearly since its establishment and for the current year aggregates $417,789.56, an increase of $116,126.38 over last year's income.
