ROGATION DAYS.

(Mon., Tues., and Wednes., before Ascension Day.)

93.

Ask God and thank God. (5.8.6's.) EVER blessed Lord!

Giver of all good!

We praise thy name with one accord,
For raiment, life, and food.
Mighty are our foes!

Helpless, Lord, are we!

When troubles rise, and danger grows,
Our safety is from Thee.

Lord, we are thy sheep!
Often do we stray !

Within thy holy pasture keep,
And lead us day by day.

Make us true and just,
Kindly and at peace;
May we in our Saviour trust,

"Till sin and sorrow cease.

94. Be courteous: love as brethren.

BEHOLD, how good and joyful a | thing • it |

is:

[ocr errors]

Brethren to dwell together in | unity!
It is as the dew of Hermon:

Which fell upon the hill of Sion.
For there the Lord | promised his | blessing:
And life forever | more.

Psalm cxxxiii. 1.

95. Remove not the ancient Landmark.

THOU shalt not remove thy neighbour's landmark,

Which they of old time have set

In thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit;

In the land that the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.

Deut. xix. 14; xxvii. 17; Job xxiv. 2-13; Prov. xxii. 28.

96. Jesus went to prepare our Place. (C.M.)

THERE is a home we ought to love,
In heaven beyond the sky;
Where God our Father dwells above,
And calls us when we die.

The Lord who came from that blest place,
And our transgressions bore,
This day ascended, full of grace,
Where he had been before.

Now sitteth he at God's right hand-
Our Saviour and our friend;
And bids us be of that blest band,
Whose hearts to him ascend.

Oh! will you not forsake all sin,
And turn from evil ways?

The Lord will help you from within,
And hear each child who prays.

97.

The Great High Priest.

CHRIST being come,

An High Priest of good things to comeBy a greater and more perfect tabernacle, Not made with hands

That is to say,-not of this building ; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood,

He entered in once into the Holy Place, Having obtained eternal redemption for us. Heb. ix. 11, 12.

[ocr errors]

(7's.)

All our wisdom, all our light,
All our strength and power and might,
All the merit we can claim,

All our hope-is in thy name!

;

Foolish are our hearts and blind,
Ever to some wrong inclined
Heedless of our home in heaven,
Bought so dear, so freely given.

Lo, his Spirit comes to give,
Life that all our souls may live;
Will, and strength to run our race ;-
Glory be unto his grace.

99.

Remember Heaven.

BRETHREN, be followers together of me! And mark them which walk so,

As ye have us for an ensample.

For our conversation is in heaven,
From whence also we look

For the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Who shall change our vile body,

That it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body,

According to the working whereby He is able

Even to subdue all things unto himself.

Phil. iii. 17-21.

100. He hath received Gifts for Men. (7's.)
HOLY SPIRIT! from above,
Come with gifts of heav'nly love;
Dwell Thou with Thy Church below,
Comfort us in ev'ry woe.

To the weary pilgrim rest;
In the lonely heart a guest;
Sunbeam to the blinded soul;
Balm which mak'st the dying whole !
Thou dost quicken sinner's heart,
Holy life and warmth impart :
Thou dost water, Thou dost tame;
Erring souls to God reclaim.

Holiness breathes round thy throne;
Truth comes forth from Thee alone:
None from plague of sin is free ;
Holy they who dwell in Thee.
