Intercessions.

O God, who hast taught us to make supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks for all men, hear these our intercessions which we offer to Thy divine majesty.

Grant, we beseech Thee, that the Gospel of Thy grace may speedily be preached among all nations, that the kingdoms of this world may become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ.

We pray for Thy holy Catholic Church upon earth, that, guided with Thy perpetual governance, she may walk warily in times of quiet and boldly in times of trouble; that those who love her may abide in her peace, and those who depart from her may yet come back to her embrace.

We pray for those who minister in holy things. Endue them with the spirit of power, and of love, and of a sound mind; and so perfect Thy gifts in them that they may glorify Thee and edify Thy Church, and at the last enter into the joy of their Lord.

Regard with Thy compassion those who wander in doubt and uncertainty amid the darkness of this world, and all who are hardened through the

deceitfulness of sin: vouchsafe them grace to come to themselves; the will and the power to return unto Thee; and the loving welcome of Thy forgiveness. Amen.

O Lord our heavenly Father, high and mighty, King of kings, Lord of lords, the only Ruler of princes, who dost from Thy throne behold all the dwellers upon earth; most heartily we beseech Thee with Thy favour to behold her most sacred Majesty Queen Victoria, and so replenish her with the grace of Thy Holy Spirit that she may always incline to Thy will, and walk in Thy way; endue her plenteously with heavenly gifts; grant her in health and wealth long to live; strengthen her that she may vanquish and overcome all her enemies; and finally, after this life, she may attain everlasting joy and felicity; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Almighty God, the Fountain of all goodness, we humbly beseech Thee to bless Albert Edward Prince of Wales, the Princess of Wales, and all the Royal Family. Endue them with Thy Holy Spirit; enrich them with Thy heavenly grace; prosper them with all happiness; and bring them to Thine everlasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We pray [for the High Court of Parliament now assembled, and] for all rulers, judges, and magistrates [especially for those of this town],

that Thou wouldst give the spirit of wisdom to those to whom Thou hast given the authority of government; and for all ranks and conditions of men, that all may serve their generation in Thy fear. Amen.

We pray for all in sickness and distress [and for any such known to ourselves whom we name in our hearts before Thee]; that Thou wouldst give strength to the weary, aid to the sufferers, comfort to the sad, and help to all in tribulation.

We pray for the dying, that the souls of Thy servants may be released in peace, and that, departing from this world, they may live for evermore with Thee.

And O, most loving Father, we remember with undying affection those near and dear to us whom death has taken, and who rest from their earthly labours and sleep in Jesus. United still in one household of faith and love, may we live in the blessed hope, that when the day of God shall dawn and the shadows flee away, we shall meet with them and all Thy redeemed in Thy presence where there is fulness of joy, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then a Psalm or Hymn is sung, or, when con

venient, the Anthem.

Then, the Congregation kneeling, the Minister shall

say

Let us Pray.

III.

The Thanksgiving.

GOD, according to Thy name, so is Thy praise unto the ends of the earth:

In goodness art Thou exalted, O Lord our Father, for ever and for ever.

We magnify Thee, we praise Thee, we worship Thee; we give thanks unto Thee for Thy good providence, for all the blessings of the present life, and all the hopes of a better life to come. We thank Thee for the preservation of our lives, and the bountiful supply of our returning wants, for health of body and soundness of mind, for strength and skill to labour in our several callings, and for that portion of earthly good which Thou hast bestowed upon us. We thank Thee for loving parents, for faithful pastors and teachers, for benefactors never to be forgotten, for kind friends, for brethren of one mind with us in the Lord, and for all who have helped us onwards in our heavenward way.

Above all, we praise and bless Thee for Thy Son our Saviour, for Thy Spirit our Sanctifier, for the ministration of Thy holy angels, for the example of Thy saints and martyrs, and for the hope of an eternal weight of glory.

Here may be introduced any other subject for

Thanksgiving.

Let the memory of Thy goodness, we beseech Thee, fill our hearts with joy and thankfulness unto our life's end; and let these, our thanksgivings, go up with acceptance before Thy throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Then followeth the Prayer for Illumination, in these words, or at the discretion of the Minister.

For Illumination.

Almighty God, with whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, open our eyes that we may behold wondrous things out of Thy law, and give us grace that we may clearly understand and heartily choose the way of Thy commandments; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Then may be sung a Psalm or Hymn.

A Sermon is then preached, concluding with an Ascription of Praise; after which the Minister shall say— Let us Pray.

IV.

Prayer after Sermon.
