true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and of Thy great mercy keep us in the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Here may be introduced any special Prayers,
as occasion may require.

Lighten our darkness, we beseech Thee, O Lord, and by Thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of Thy only Son our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Then the Offering is collected; a Psalm or Hymn is sung; and the Minister closes the service by pronouncing one or other of these Benedictions

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

Or

The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of His Son Jesus Christ, our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be amongst you, and remain with you always.

Amen.

Fifth Sunday of the Month.

Morning Service.

The Congregation being assembled, Divine Service may begin with the singing of a Psalm or Hymn; then, the Congregation still standing, the Minister shall say

IF ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts

unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him?

Ask, and it shall be given you: seek and ye shall find: knock and it shall be opened unto you. Then, the Congregation kneeling, the Minister shall say

Let us Pray.

I.

Prayer of Invocation.

ALMIGHTY God our heavenly Father, who

hast permitted us again to assemble in

Thy house of prayer, give us grace, we humbly

beseech Thee, to draw near to Thee in purity and sincerity of heart, and to offer unto Thee the sacrifices of prayer and praise with unfeigned self-devotion: and may it please Thee to make Thyself known to us, and to satisfy us with Thy mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Confession.

Almighty and most merciful Father, who callest the sinner to forsake his way and to return unto Thee that Thou mayest have mercy upon him, we humbly acknowledge before Thee our manifold sins and shortcomings. We have grievously sinned against Thee in thought and word and deed. We have broken Thy holy commandments and have departed from Thy ways. We have been unthankful for Thy mercies, we have despised Thy fatherly goodness, we have resisted and grieved Thy Holy Spirit. We have not fulfilled the law of Christ that we should bear one another's burdens. We have not loved our neighbour as ourselves; we have not done unto others as we would that they should do unto us; we have sought too much our own gain and advantage, and have closed our hearts against our fellow-men, forgetting that we are members one of another.

For Pardon and Peace.

But Thou, O God, have mercy upon us Thy penitent children, and grant us Thy forgiveness through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Turn us again unto Thyself, and suffer us not to fall away from Thee, for with Thee there is mercy, and Thou dost redeem Thy people from all their iniquities.

O Thou who didst send Thy son Jesus Christ into the world to seek and to save that which was lost, receive us in Thy mercy and comfort us with Thy salvation.

Create in us a clean heart, O God:

And renew a right spirit within us.
Cast us not away from Thy presence:
And take not Thy Holy Spirit from us.

Supplications.

Amen.

Hear, O Lord, our humble supplications. Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of Thine infinite compassion hast brought us to Thyself, and given us peace with Thee through Jesus Christ our Lord, grant that with all our heart and soul we may love Thee who hast so loved us, and that with all our powers we may show forth Thy praise.

Take us, we entreat Thee, under Thy heavenly guidance and protection: deliver us from all un

belief and hardness of heart, give us a simple and childlike faith in Thy goodness and love, and in all things lead and direct us by Thy Holy Spirit.

Unite us by a true and living faith to Christ our Saviour, that we may know the fellowship of His sufferings and the power of His resurrection; and grant that, denying ourselves, and following in the footsteps of our Lord, we may grow into His likeness, and be made partakers of His joy.

Kindle in us such love towards our fellow-men that we may live in charity and peace with all the world; and, as Christ pleased not Himself, but gave Himself for us, so grant that we may devote ourselves with cheerfulness and zeal to the service and welfare of our brethren.

O God who art light, and in whom is no darkness at all, shine into our minds, we beseech Thee, with the knowledge of Thyself, and incline our hearts to understanding. Grant to us, we beseech Thee, that we may love the laws of Thy kingdom, and rejoice in the works which Thou hast made, that in Thy light we may see light, and in Thy service find perfect freedom.

Confirm and strengthen in us, O Lord, sincere and upright purposes, foster in us warm and true affections, and give us strength to bring to good effect the holy desires which by Thy grace arise in our hearts. When we are tempted strengthen
