The Thanksgiving.

MAGNIFY the Lord with me:
Let us exalt His name together.

Almighty God, whom all Thy works throughout all places of Thy dominion praise continually, accept, we pray Thee, the thanks which we offer Thee for all Thy goodness. We praise Thee for all the works of Thy hands, O Thou Creator and Governor of all things. We bless Thee that Thou hast created us in Thine own image, that Thou hast revealed to us Thy counsels, and hast made us partakers of Thy thoughts, and fellowworkers in Thy kingdom. We praise Thee that Thou hast never left Thyself without a witness in the world, and that Thou hast spoken to us at sun

dry times and in divers manners by Thy prophets. Especially we praise Thee that in the fulness of time Thou didst send forth Thy Son, the brightness of Thy glory, and the express image of Thy person. We bless Thee that in Him the true light has come into the world, to deliver us from darkness, and to lead us into heavenly truth. We praise Thee that in Him we have the forgiveness of our sins, and that Thou hast sent us Thy Holy Spirit to bear witness with our spirits that we are Thy children, and heirs of Thy kingdom. Thou hast never forsaken us, O God; Thou hast made goodness and mercy to follow us; Thou hast set open before us the gates of life. Grant, O Lord, that Thy grace and loving-kindness may dwell for ever in our hearts, and that all our life long we may show forth Thy praise.

Here may be introduced any other subject for
Thanksgiving.

Accept, O Lord, the prayers and thanksgivings of Thy people; bestow upon us what Thou seest to be good for us, and grant that we may know the fulness of the blessing which Thou hast given us of Thine infinite mercy in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then followeth the Prayer for Illumination, in these words, or at the discretion of the Minister.

For Illumination.

O God, who guidest the meek in judgment, and teachest them Thy way, we beseech Thee to give unto us Thy Holy Spirit and the wisdom that cometh from above: grant that Thy word may have free course and be glorified; may we receive it, as is meet, with joy and thankfulness, and be strengthened and purified thereby; so that with steadfast faith we may serve Thee who art invisible, and abide to our life's end in Thy love and fear; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Then may be sung a Psalm or Hymn.

Amen.

A Sermon is then preached, concluding with an Ascription of Praise; after which the Minister shall say—

IV.

Prayer after Sermon.

GOD, from whom all good things do come,

who causest Thy sun to rise upon us and sendest us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, be pleased to bestow upon us day by day what we require. Grant to each of us the strength he needs to accomplish his task; bless the work of our hands and of our minds, and give us grace to serve Thee in health and in sickness, in wealth

and in poverty. Sanctify our joys and our trials, and enable us to seek first Thy kingdom and righteousness, and to believe that Thou wilt add to us all else that is good; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Here may be introduced any special Prayers,

as occasion may require.

Then the Offering is collected; a Psalm or Hymn is sung; and the Minister closes the service by pronouncing one or other of these Benedictions—

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

Or

The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of His Son Jesus Christ, our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be amongst you, and remain with you always.
