4.

O God, who, in these holy mysteries, hast vouchsafed to feed us with the spiritual food of the flesh and blood of Thy dear Son; we beseech Thee, that all who faithfully partake of the same may grow up in the communion of the body of Christ, and finally attain unto the glory of the resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee, O Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

Morning Prayers.

1.

From the night early awaketh our soul unto Thee, O God; for the light of Thy commandments is upon the earth. Teach us, O God, by Thy truth; by Thy commandments; by Thy judgments; enlighten the eyes of our minds lest we sleep the sleep of death. Remove from our hearts all darkness; give unto us the light of the Sun of righteousness; preserve our life free from all snares, by Thy Holy Spirit; and direct our footsteps in the way of peace; for Thine is the

dominion, the power, and the glory, world without end.

Amen.

2.

O God, who dividest the day from the night, separate our deeds from the gloom of darkness. As Thou hast awakened our bodies from sleep, so, we beseech Thee, awaken our souls from sin: as Thou hast caused the light of day to shine on our bodily eyes, cause the light of Thy Word and Holy Spirit to illuminate our hearts; and so give us grace, as the children of light, to walk in all holy obedience before Thy face this day, that in all our thoughts, words, and dealings, we may endeavour to keep faith and a clean conscience towards Thee and towards all men; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

3.

O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day, defend us in the same with Thy mighty power, and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger, but that all our doings may be ordered by Thy governance to do always that is righteous in Thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Evening Prayers.

1.

Blessed art Thou, O Lord, who hast granted us to pass through this day, and to reach the beginning of the night. Hear our prayers, and those of all Thy people; forgive us all our sins, negligences, and ignorances; accept our evening supplications, and send down on Thine inheritance the fulness of Thy mercy and compassion. Compass us about with Thy holy angels; arm us with the armour of Thy righteousness, and guard us by Thy power; deliver us from every assault and device of the adversary, and grant that we may pass this night and all the days and nights of our life in fulness of peace and holiness, without sin or offence; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

2.

O God, Most High, who alone art exalted, having immortality, and dwelling in the light which no one can approach unto; who hast given us grace to come before Thee at this time, to offer unto Thee our evening sacrifice of adoration and praise; grant unto us peace for the present evening and coming night; clothe us with the armour of light; save us from the fear of the night, and from all the perils of darkness; grant unto us sleep, that our weary bodies may be re

freshed, and defend us from all the malice of the devil. And, O Lord, Giver of all good things, grant us, while resting on our beds, to remember Thy name in the silent watches of the night; which do Thou grant according to Thy good will towards us. And to Thee we ascribe glory; to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.

3.

O God, who hast given the day to man for labour, and the night for rest, protect us by Thy watchful providence during the coming night, and all the nights and days of our pilgrimage. Cover all our sins with Thy mercy, as Thou coverest the earth with darkness during the night-watches. And when our days are ended, and our work is finished in this world, may we depart hence in the blessed assurance of Thy favour, and in the certain hope of the resurrection to immortal life, which Thou hast given us in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

4.

O God, with whom there is no darkness, but the night shineth as the day, keep and defend us, and all Thy saints, in soul and body, during the coming night. May we rest in the consciousness of Thy favour; in the peace of a good conscience; in the hope of a better life; in

the faith of Thy providence; in the love of Thy Spirit.

May we rise up again to diligence in our several callings, to work the work of God while the day lasts, seeing the night cometh in which no man can work. And whether we wake or sleep, may we live together with Christ. Amen.

At Seed-time.

O Lord our God, author and giver of all good things, who hast ordained the earth to bring forth grass for cattle, and herbs and food for the service of man; look down in Thy compassion upon us, and bless, we beseech Thee, the labours of Thy servants, who till and sow the fields. Vouchsafe to us seasonable weather; cause Thy sun to shine, and let Thy rain and dew refresh the ground, that the fruits of the earth may be matured, our garners may be filled with corn and all good fruits, and that there may be abundance of food, both for man and for beast. So we Thy people and the sheep of Thy pasture will give Thee thanks for ever: we will show forth Thy praise to all generations. Amen.

For Rain.
