holiest, that coming boldly to the throne of grace we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time Amen.

of need.

6.

Almighty and everlasting God, who art always more ready to hear than we to pray, and art wont to give more than either we desire or deserve; pour down upon us the abundance of Thy mercy; forgiving us those things whereof our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord. Amen.

1.

O Thou who art greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are round about Thee; be present with us this day, and with all Thy people who worship in Thy holy place. Fill our hearts with Thy fear, and open Thou our lips to make confession and supplication, and to show forth all Thy praise ; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

8.

O Lord our God, great, eternal, wonderful in Thy glory; who keepest covenant and promises for those that love Thee with their whole heart; who art the Life of all, the Help of those that flee unto Thee, the Hope of those who cry unto Thee,-cleanse us from our sins, secret and open, and from every thought displeasing to Thy goodness; cleanse our hearts and consciences, that with a peaceful soul

and quiet mind, with perfect love and calm hope, we may venture with confidence and without fear to pray unto Thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

9.

O most merciful God, who by Thy holy prophet didst foretell that Thy name should be great among the Gentiles, and that in every place incense and a pure offering should be offered unto Thy name; who hast taught us by Thy well-beloved Son, that the hour is come wherein the true worshippers must worship Thee, in every place, in spirit and in truth; grant, we beseech Thee, that we may continually offer unto Thee pure sacrifices, and true and reasonable worship in the Holy Ghost, and may never wander from Thy most blessed truth, even from the true Shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

Confessions.

1.

Give ear, O Lord, unto our prayer, and hearken to our supplications; for we acknowledge our iniquities, and lay bare our sins before Thee. Against Thee, O Lord, have we sinned; to Thee do we make our confession, and implore forgiveness. Turn Thy face,

O Lord, upon Thy servants, whom Thou hast redeemed with the most precious blood of Thy dear Son. Spare us, we beseech Thee; pardon our offences; and be pleased to extend to us Thy lovingkindness and mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

2.

Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men; we cast ourselves down at Thy feet with deep humiliation, in view of our manifold sins and great unrighteousness, whereby we have provoked against ourselves most justly Thine indignation and wrath.

We have sinned against Thee in thought, word, and deed; we have broken Thy holy laws; we have come short of Thy righteousness and glory in all our ways; our lives bear testimony against us, and our own hearts condemn us as being prone to all evil and backward to all good.

We have abused Thy mercies and made light of Thy judgments; we have turned aside from Thy covenant; and we have not been faithful and diligent in using the helps of Thy grace for our eternal salvation.

O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto Thee, and unto us only confusion of face. But unto Thee, O Lord our God, belong also mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against Thee. For Thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive, and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon Thee. Look upon us, therefore, O righteous and holy Father, with an eye of pity and compassion, as we now humble ourselves, with sincere confession, before the throne

of Thy heavenly grace, and, for the sake of Thy Son Jesus Christ, speak pardon and peace to our souls. Let Thy mercy be upon us, O Lord, according as we hope in Thee. And with the full pardon of our past sins be pleased also to quicken us, we beseech Thee, in the way of righteousness, and uphold us with Thy free Spirit; that we may henceforth walk worthy of the vocation wherewith we are called, and ever hereafter serve and please Thee in newness of life, to the honour and glory of Thy holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

3.

We, poor sinners, confess before Thee, our Lord God and Creator, that we have grievously sinned in thought, in word, and in deed, neglecting the good and doing the evil, as Thou the searcher of hearts well knowest, and as we cannot enough deplore. We have broken the vows made unto Thee in our baptism, wherein we were made members of the body of Thy Son; we have not held fast the hope of His coming, neither have we purified ourselves as He is pure; we have not worthily praised Thee for Thy goodness, nor rendered unto Thee the glory due unto Thy name.

O merciful God, pardon these our transgressions for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ, our only Mediator with Thee. As we from the heart forgive them that have sinned against us, do Thou show the like mercy unto us, and to all penitent sinners, and of Thy pity lead and guide us all from the misery of sin unto eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

4.

Most merciful Father, we acknowledge and confess before Thee that we are miserable sinners, conceived in sin, and brought forth in iniquity. We have broken the commandments of Thy just, holy, and good law, doing what Thou hast forbidden, and leaving undone what Thou hast enjoined. We have grievously offended Thee, not only by outward transgressions, but still more by inward iniquities of the heart. Nor have we sinned only through ignorance and infirmity, but also presumptuously, against the light of Thy Word, the checks of our consciences, and the strivings of Thy Holy Spirit, so that we have no cloak for our sins.

But yet, O Lord, we draw near to the throne of grace, hoping in Thy mercy. We trust in the allsufficiency of that one sacrifice which Thy beloved Son hath offered for us on the cross, and in the efficacy of that intercession which He ever liveth to make for us at Thy right hand; and we most humbly beseech Thee, for His sake, to grant us the full and free remission of all our sins. Amen.

Prayers for Pardon and Peace.
