FOREWORD

[ocr errors]

HE OFFICE OF EDUCATION publishes at approximately 4-year intervals a compilation of lists of institutions of higher education accredited by nationally recognized regional and professional accrediting agencies and by State agencies responsible for accrediting within the various States. This bulletin is the tenth in the series, replacing the 1952 edition.

The purpose in issuing periodic revisions of the bulletin is to record the changes that occur and to provide information about accredited higher institutions to college and university officers, State department of education officials, and college and highschool students. Governmental and non-governmental agencies are making increasing use of the publication in various phases of their work.

Lists furnished by regional, professional, and State accrediting agencies as of the spring of 1956 are reproduced in this bulletin.

LLOYD E. BLAUCH

Assistant Commissioner for Higher Education.
