Then, by command of the Sovereign, the Marquess of Bute was received at the door of the Chapter-room, by the two junior Knights Brethren present, and conducted between them to Her Majesty, preceded by the Deputy Secretary, bearing on a crimson velvet cushion the ensigns of the Order, and by the Usher of the Green Rod.

The sword of state being thereupon delivered to the Sovereign by His Royal Highness the Prince Albert, the senior Knight, the Marquess of Bute, kneeling, was knighted therewith, after which his Lordship had the honour to kiss Her Majesty's hand; the Marquess of Bute, rising, the oath was administered to his Lordship by the Deputy Secretary.

The Marquess, then again kneeling near the Sovereign, and the Deputy Secretary, on his knee, presenting to Her Majesty the ribband and jewel of the Order, the Queen was graciously pleased to place the same over the Marquess's left shoulder.

His Lordship, having again kissed Sovereign's hand, and received the congratulations of the Knights Brethren, retired.

The Chapter then proceeded to a second election, and the suffrages having been collected as before, and presented to the Sovereign, Her Majesty was pleased to declare that WilliamDavid Earl of Mansfield had been duly elected a Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle; whereupon his Lordship was introduced and knighted; and, the oath having been administered to his Lordship, he was invested with the ribband and jewel in the same manner as the Marquess of Bute had been; and, the like ceremonies having been observed, his Lordship withdrew.

The Chapter being ended, the Knights Brethren were, by command of the Sovereign, again called over by the Deputy Secretary, and, with the Officers of the Order, retired from the presence of the Sovereign, with the usual reverences.

The QUEEN's Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

WHEREAS the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England have, in pursuance of an Act, passed in the session of Parliament held in the third and fourth years of Her Majesty's reign, intituled "An Act to carry into effect, with "certain modifications, the fourth report of "the Commissioners of Ecclesiastical Duties and "Revenues," duly prepared and laid before Her Majesty in Council a scheme, bearing date the thirtieth day of May one thousand eight hundred and forty-three, in the words and figures following, that is to say:

"We, the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England, in pursuance of an Act, passed in the session of Parliament held in the third and fourth years of your present Majesty's reign, intituled "An Act to carry into effect, with certain modi"fications, the fourth report of the Commissioners "of Ecclesiastical Duties and Revenues," have prepared, and now humbly lay before your Majesty in Council, the following scheme, for

empowering and enabling the Master, Fellows, and Scholars of St. Mary Magdalene College, in the University of Cambridge, to convey and assure the advowson of and perpetual right of presentation to the rectory of Elingham, in the county of Norfolk and diocese of Norwich, to the persons, and in the manner, hereinafter mentioned.

"Whereas we did, in pursuance of the said recited Act, prepare and lay before your Majesty in Council a scheme, bearing date the eleventh day of February now last past, for severing the said rectory of Elingham from the mastership of the said college, and for authorizing the sale of the advowson of the said rectory; and by the same scheme we did, amongst other things, recommend and propose, with the consent of the Master and Fellows of the said college, and also with the consent of the Right Honourable Richard Griffin Lord Braybrooke (as Visitor of the said college), and of the Right Honourable and Reverend George Neville Grenville, the then and present Master of the said college, and, as such Master, the then and present Rector and Incumbent of the said rectory of Elingham, that the advowson of and perpetual right of presentation to the said rectory of Elingham should be severed and disannexed from the said mastership; and that the said advowson and right of presentation, together with all endowments, rights, privileges, and appurtenances thereunto belonging, might and should be sold and conveyed to such person or persons or body corporate, in such manner, and subject to such conditions, and for such price or sum of money as should be determined upon and approved by us, but not for a less price or sum of money than should be approved by the Visitor and Master of the said college for the time being; and, by our said scheme of the eleventh day of February

last, we did further recommend and propose, that nothing therein contained should prevent us from recommending and proposing other measures relating to the matters to which the same scheme applied, in conformity with the provisions of the said Act:

"And whereas at a Court, held at BuckinghamPalace on the twenty-fourth day of February now last past, your Majesty was graciously pleased to approve and ratify the said scheme by an Order in Council, which has been duly published in the London Gazette pursuant to the said Act:

“And whereas, in pursuance of the said scheme of the eleventh day of February last, and by virtue of your Majesty's said Order, we did cause certain particulars to be printed, offering the said advowson of and perpetual right of presentation to the said rectory of Elingham for sale, with a form of tender for the purchase thereof annexed :

"And whereas the Reverend John Brewster Wilkinson, of Holbrook, in the county of Suffolk, Clerk, Thomas Clark Brettingham, of Brookdishplace, in the county of Norfolk, Esquire, and William Elliott Le Blanc, of New Bridge-street, Blackfriars, in the city of London, Gentleman, did, agreeably to the said printed particulars and form of tender, offer the sum of six thousand five hundred pounds for the purchase of the said advowson and perpetual right of presentation:

"And whereas the said price or sum of six thousand five hundred pounds having been approved by the said Richard Griffin Lord Braybrooke (the said present Visitor of the said college), and by the said George Neville Grenville (the said present Master of the said college), testified by their having, respectively, signed and sealed this present scheme, we have approved the said offer of the said John
