Give the benefits I claim; .
LORD, I afk in JESUS' name.
3 Meek and lowly be my mind,'
Pure my heart, my will refign'd:
Make me dead to all below,
Only CHRIST refolv'd to know;
Firm, and difengaged, and free,
Seeking all my blifs in thee.
4 Stoop from thy eternal throne;
See, thy promife calls thee down!
High and lofty as thou art,
Dwell within my worthlefs heart:
My poor, fainting foul revive,
There for ever walk and live.
5 Heav'nly Adam, life divine,
Change my nature into thine;
Move and spread throughout my foul,
Actuate and fill the whole:
Be it I no longer now

Living in the flesh, but Thou!
6 HOLY GHOST, no more delay,
Come, and in thy temple stay;
Now thine inward. witnefs bear,...
Strong, and permanent, and clear:
Source of life, thyself impart,
Rife eternal in my heart!

XLV. Morning.

JESUS, thou all-fuftaining word,

My fallen fpirit's hope;

After thy lovely likeness, LORD,
O when fhall I wake up?

1

Thou, deareft LORD, thou only art
The Life, the Truth, the Way;
Quicken my foul, inftruct my heart,
My finking footsteps ftay.

2 Of all thou haft, on earth below,
In heav'n above, to give;
Give me thy bleffed felf to know,
In thee to walk and live:

Fill me with all the life of love,
In myftic union join

Me to thyfelf, and let me prove
The fellowship divine.

3 Open the intercourse between
My longing foul and thee,
Never to be broke off again
To all eternity:

Grant this, O LORD, for thou haft dy'd
That I might be forgiv'n;
Thou haft the Righteoufnefs fupply'd,
For which I merit heav'n.

XLVI. Evening.

ESUS, thou fin-atoning LAMB,
Lover of loft mankind,

Salvation in whofe only name.

The chofen race can find ;

I ask thy grace to make me clean,
I come to thee, my GoD:
Open, O LORD, for this day's fin,
The fountain of thy blood.

2 Hither my fpotted foul be brought,
With ev'ry idle word,

And ev'ry work, and ev'ry thought,
That hath not pleas'd my LORD:
Hither my actions, righteous deem'd
By man, and counted good;
As filthy rags by God efteem'd,
Till sprinkled with thy blood.
3 No! my best actions cannot fave,
But Thou muft wafh ev'n them;.
And (for in Thee I now believe)
My worst cannot condemn:

To Thee, then, O vouchfafe me pow'r
For pardon ftill to flee;

And, ev'ry day, and ev'ry hour,

To wash myself in thee.

XLVII. Human Righteoufness infufficient. W Herewith, O LORD, fhall I draw near,

Or bow myself before thy face?

How in thy, purer eyes, appear?

What fhall I bring, to gain thy grace!
2 Will gifts delight the LORD moft high?
Will multiply'd oblations pleafe?
Thoufands of rams his favor buy?
Or flaughter'd hecatombs appeafe?
3 Can thefe affwage the wrath of GOD?
Can these wash out my guilty ftain?
Rivers of oil, or feas of blood,
Alas! they all muft flow in vain.

4 What have I, then, wherein to truft? I nothing have, I nothing am; Excluded is my ev'ry boaft,

My glory fwallow'd up in fhame. 5 Guilty I ftand before thy face;

My fole defert is hell and wrath : "Twere juft the fentence fhould take place, But, O! I plead my Savior's death! 6 JESUS, the LAMB of GOD, hath bled; He bore my fins upon the tree: Beneath my curfe he bow'd his head; 'Tis finifh'd! he hath dy'd for me! 7 For me I now believe he dy'd;

He made my ev'ry crime his own; Fully for me he fatisfy'd:

FATHER, well pleas'd, behold thy Son!

8 See, where before thy throne he stands,
And pours the all-availing pray'r;
Points to his fide, and lifts his hands,
And fhews that I am graven there.

9

He ever lives, for me to pray;

He prays, that I with him may reign: Amen to what my LORD doth fay! JESUS, thou canst not pray in vain.

Honor and equal love

Let GOD the Son receive,

Who faves us here, and prays above

That we with him may live.

Be everlasting praise

To GOD the SPIRIT giv❜n,
Who fanctifys the chofen race,
And feals the heirs of heav'n.

Drawn, and redeem'd, and feal'd,
We'll fing the One in Three;

With FATHER, SON, and SPIRIT fill'd
To all eternity.

XLIX. Another.

GREAT FATHER of men,

Be ever ador'd;

Thy mercy is feen
In fending our LORD
To ranfom and bless us;
Thy goodnefs we praise,
For fending, in JESUS,
Salvation by grace.

2 O SON of his Love,
Who deignedft to dye,
Our curfe to remove,
Our pardon to buy;
Accept our thanksgiving,
Almighty to fave,
Who openest Heaven
To all that believe.
