STODDARD, M.D.; GEORGE Second Edition VOLUME ONE NEW YORK WILLIAM WOOD & COMPANY MDCCCCVI HW COPYRIGHT, 1906 BY WILLIAM WOOD AND COMPANY MAJ PRESS OF NEW YORK THE HE writer's Manual of Bacteriology, published in 1892, was very favorably received both in this country and abroad, but its usefulness has no doubt been to some extent restricted by the size and expense of the volume. For this reason a revised and abridged edition was published in 1896 under the title of "A Text-Book of Bacteriology." A second revision was made in 1901. The present volume is a further abridgment and revision, designed especially for students of medicine. It is intended to serve as a guide for laboratory work and as a text-book for students, containing a full account of the most important pathogenic bacteria, and such information with reference to saprophytic bacteria as is essential to a comprehension of the rôle of this class of microorganisms in the economy of nature. 1906.
