A PROCLAMATION, Appointing a Day for the Solemnity of the Coronation of His Majesty. GEORGE, R. WHEREAS by Our Royal Proclamation, bearing date the sixth day of May one thousand eight hundred and twenty, We did (amongst other things) publish and declare Our Royal intention to celebrate the Solemnity of Our Royal Coronation upon Tuesday the first day of August then next ensuing, at Our Palace at Westminster and whereas by Our Royal Proclamation, bearing date on the twelfth of July following, We thought fit to adjourn the said Solemnity until Our Royal will and pleasure should be further signified thereon: and whereas We have resolved, by the favour and blessing of Almighty God, to celebrate the said Solemnity upon Thursday the nineteenth day of July next, at Our said Palace at Westminster; We do by this Our Royal Proclamation give notice of and publish Our resolution therein; and We do hereby strictly charge and command all Our loving subjects whom it may concern, that all persons of what rank or quality soever they be, who either upon Our letters to them directed, or by reason of their offices and tenures, or otherwise, are to do any service at the time of Our Coronation, do duly give their attendance at the said Solemnity on Thursday the nineteenth day of July next, in all respects furnished and appointed as to so great a Solemnity appertaineth, and answerable to the dignities and places which every one of them respectively holdeth and enjoyeth; and of this they or any of them are not to fail, as they will answer the contrary at their perils, unless upon special reasons, by Ourself under Our sign manual to be allowed, We shall dispense with any of their services or attendances. 'WHEREAS John Earl of Stair was duly elected and returned to be one of the sixteen Peers of Scotland, to sit in the House of Peers in the present Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and is since deceased; in ortler to the electing another Peer of Scotland to sit in his room, We do, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council, issue forth this Proclamation, strictly charging and commanding all the Peers of Scotland to assemble and meet at Holyrood-House, in Edinburgh, on Thursday the second day of August next, between the hours of twelve and two in the afternoon, to nominate and choose another Peer of Scotland, to sit and vote in the House of Peers of this present Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, in the room of the said John Earl of Stair, deceased, by open election and plurality of voices of the Peers that shall then be present, and of the proxies of such as shall be absent (such proxies being Peers, and producing a mandate in writing, duly signed before witnesses, and both constituent and proxy being qualified according to law), and the Lord Clerk Register, or such two of the Principal Clerks of the Session as shall be appointed by him to officiate in his name, are hereby respectively required to attend such meeting, and to administer the oaths required by law to be taken there by the said Peers, and to take their votes; and immediately after such election made and duly examined, to certify the name of the Peer so elected, and sign and attest the same in 1821. And We strictly charge and command that this Proclamation be duly published at the Market-Cross at Edinburgh, and in all the county towns in Scotland, twentyfive days, at least, before the time hereby appointed for the meeting of the said Peers to proceed on such election. WHEREAS by an Act, passed in the fifty-sixtla year of His late Majesty's reign, cap. 38, in tituled An Act to empower His Majesty to suspend the ballot or enrolment for the local militia," it is enacted, that it shall be lawful for His Majesty, by any Order in Council, to direct that no ballot or enrolment for the local militia shall take place; but that such ballot and enrol ment shall remain and continue suspended for the period specified in any such Order of Council, and from time to time, by any like Order or Orders-in Council, to, continue, such suspension so long as His Majesty shall deem the same expedient, any thing in any Act, or Acts, of Parliament to the contrary, notwithstanding and whereas by an Order |
