BY virtue of the directions of an Act, passed in the twenty-fourth year of the reign of His late Majesty King George the Third, intituled "An Act to repeal so much of two Acts, "made in the tenth and fifteenth years of "the reign of His present Majesty, as autho"rises the Speaker of the House of Commons "to issue his warrant to the Clerk of the Crown "for making out writs for the election of Mem"bers to serve in Parliament in the manner "therein mentioned; and for substituting other "provisions for the like purposes:"

I do hereby give notice, that it hath been. certified to me in writing, under the hands of two Members serving in this present Parliament, that the Right Honourable Sir William Scott, Knight, late Member serving in this present Parliament for the University of Oxford, is become a Peer of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and

Ireland, to whom a writ of summons hath been issued under the Great Seal of the United Kingdom to summon him to Parliament; and that I shall issue my warrant to the Clerk of the Crown to make out a new writ for the electing of a Burgess to serve in this present Parliament for the said University of Oxford, in the room of the said Right Honourable Sir William Scott, Knight, now a Peer of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, to whom a writ of summons hath been issued as aforesaid, at the end of fourteen days after the insertion of this notice in the London Gazette.

CEREMONIAL of the Investiture of Major-General Sir Charles Philip Belson, Knight Commander of the Most Honourable Military Order of the Bath, with the Star of the Second Class of the Order.

By command of His Majesty, Major-General Sir Charles Philip Belson was conducted, with the usual reverences, to His Majesty, preceded by Sir George Nayler (the Officer of Arms attendant upon the Knights Commanders), bearing upon a crimson velvet cushion the star appropriated to the second class of the Order.

Then His Royal Highness the Duke of York and of Albany, First and Principal Knight Grand Cross of the Order, having received from the Officer of Arms the star of a Knight Commander, presented it to the King, who was graciously pleased to invest Sir Charles Philip Belson with the same.

The Major-General having had the honour to kiss His Majesty's hand, retired.
