A - men.

"Certainly I will be with Thee."

1. STANDING at the portal of the opening year,
Words of comfort meet us, hushing every fear;
Spoken through the silence by our Father's Voice,
Tender, strong, and faithful, making us rejoice.

Onward then, and fear not, children of the day!
For His Word shall never, never pass away!

2. I, the Lord, am with thee, be thou not afraid,

I will help and strengthen, be thou not dismayed!
Yea, I will uphold thee with My own Right Hand,
Thou art called and chosen in My sight to stand.
Onward then, &c.

3. For the year before us, oh, what rich supplies!
For the poor and needy living streams shall rise;
For the sad and sinful shall His grace abound;
For the faint and feeble perfect strength be found.
Onward then, &c.

4. He will never fail us, He will not forsake ;
His eternal covenant He will never break.
Resting on His promise, what have we to fear?
God is all-sufficient for the coming year.

Onward then, &c.

F. R. HAVERGAL.

"There shall come a star out of Jacob."

F. H. 1. BRIGHTEST and best of the sons of the morning!

Dawn on our darkness, and lend us thine aid;

Star of the East! the horizon adorning,

Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid.

T. 2. Cold on His cradle the dewdrops are shining;
Low lies His bed with the beasts of the stall:

Angels adore Him, in slumber reclining,

Maker, and Monarch, and Saviour of all.

M. 3. Say, shall we yield Him, in costly devotion,
Odours of Edom and off'rings divine,

Gems of the mountain, and pearls of the ocean,
Myrrh from the forest, or gold from the mine :

H. 4. Vainly we offer each ample oblation;

Vainly with gifts would His favour secure ;
Richer by far is the heart's adoration,

Dearer to God are the prayers of the poor.

F. U. 5. Brightest and best of the sons of the morning!
Dawn on our darkness, and lend us thine aid;
