DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ASSESSMENTS OF FEDERAL PROPERTIES FEDERAL REAL PROPERTY IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, JULY 1, 1964 DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA GOVERNMENT, DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL ADMINISTRATION, FINANCE OFFICE, FEDERALLY OWNED REAL PROPERTY IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA The following tabulation lists all Federal properties in the District of Columbia categorized as to those properties that would be included in the computation of the proposed Federal payment formula and those properties that would be omitted from the computation. Included in the formula are properties with a total assessed value of $1,205,896,409. Excluded from the formula are properties with a total assessed value of $405,745,543. Valuations are assessed values as of July 1, 1964. To the extent possible, the same assessment standards and techniques are applied in valuing Federal properties as are applied in valuing similar types of private properties for assessment purposes. For certain types of Federal properties, however, such as the U.S. Capitol, the White House, and monuments, original cost is trended upward to present-day costs less depreciation to arrive at current assessed values. In other instances, such as Federal office buildings, reproduction cost less depreciation is established in the same manner as it would be for similar private office buildings. In all instances, land values are based on comparable land values established for private property nearby. Assessments on all Federal properties are reviewed and revised at least once in every 4 years as a part of the continuing citywide. reassessment program. Summary of federally owned properties reviewed for Federal payment 1 NOTE. The level of assessments in the District averages between 55 and 65 percent of market value' according to the District of Columbia Department of General Administration, Finance Office. 1.
