Here is the hand of the incomparable master. Here, a scene composed of about half-a-dozen lines, is our interest already strongly excited. There is not in the whole course of the drama beside, ancient or modern, an in stance where so much is effected in so narrow a compass. We are at once upon the tiptoe of definite expectation. We exclaim to ourselves There's matter here! Such personages do not busy themselves about nothing, nor can he have a common part to act who is the theme of their conversation, the subject of their solicitude.
