The book is about a father who is telling his son's life story from his perspective. His son, Phillip Abraham had dedicated his life to a deep inner conviction that cost him considerable hardships. The reasons for this was that Phillip held on to the belief that there was two sides to every story. This belief then began a quest for him to prove that God's sovereignty controlled the world's final fate, as it was disclosed to him through a dream that he received from an angelic being. As a result of this vision, many people criticized his viewpoints, while others took him most seriously.
