HE Queen has been pleased to appoint Charles Justin Mac Carthy, Esquire, to be Colonial Secretary for the Island of Ceylon.

The Queen has been pleased to appoint William Murray, Esq. of Henderland, to be one of the Board of Supervision for Relief of the Poor in Scotland, in the room of Sir John McPherson Grant, Bart. deceased.

The Queen has been pleased to present the Reverend William Brown, D.D. to the church and parish of Cameron, in the presbytery of St. Andrew, and county of Fife, vacant by the transportation of the Reverend William Milligan, M.A. late minister thereof, to the church and parish of Kilconquhar.

16th Regiment of Foot, Captain George Studdert, from 93rd Foot, to be Captain, vice Goldie, who exchanges. Dated 3rd January 1851. 54th Foot, Cornet Andrew Robert Guy Evered, from 1st Dragoon Guards, to be Ensign, vice Shiffner, promoted. Dated 3rd January 1851. 67th Foot, Ensign Edmund Holden Steward to be Lieutenant, by purchase, vice Pratt, who retires. Dated 3rd January 1851. Thomas Blakiston Houston, Gent. to be Ensign, by purchase, vice Steward. Dated 3rd January 1851.

69th Foot, Michael William Lade Coast, Gent. to be Ensign, by purchase, vice Gray, who retires. Dated 3rd January 1851.

93rd Foot, Captain George Patrick Goldie, from the 16th Foot, to be Captain, vice Studdert, who exchanges. Dated 3rd January 1851.

99th Foot, Patrick Carroll, M.D. to be AssistantSurgeon, vice Galbraith, promoted on the Staff. Dated 3rd January 1851.

BREVET.

Captain William Grant Prendergast, of the 8th Regiment of Bengal Cavalry, to be Major in the Army in the East Indies. Dated 20th May 1850.

HOSPITAL STAFF.

Assistant-Surgeon George Thomas Galbraith, M.D. from the 99th Foot, to be Staff Surgeon of the Second Class, vice Courtenay, deceased. Dated 3rd January 1851.

The following promotions have this day taken place consequent on the death of Rear-Admiral James Murray Gordon:

Rear-Admiral of the White the Honourable Sir Fleetwood Broughton Reynolds Pellew, C.B. K.C.H. to be Rear-Admiral of the Red.

Rear-Admiral of the Blue Sir Joshua Ricketts Rowley, Bart. to be Rear-Admiral of the White. Captain John Toup Nicolas, C.B. K.H. to be Rear-Admiral of the Blue.

Captain William Stanhope Lovell, K.H. has also been promoted to be a Retired Rear-Admiral under the terms proposed in the London Gazette of the 1st September 1846, without increase of pay.
