PREFACE TO THE REVISED EDITION. THE first edition of these Notes, etc., sold very rapidly. I am grateful for this, as well as for the friendly criticisms it received from the public press. Considerable additions have been made to the present issue, and the whole has been carefully revised and corrected, in order that the work may be stereotyped. It will be observed that I have re-arranged the "Notes," by placing them after the answers they are intended to illustrate. REPENTANCE includes the renunciation of the Devil and his works; the pomps and vanity of the wicked world; and the sinful lusts (desires) of the flesh. (Jas. iv. 7; 1 John ii. 15, 16.) 2. FAITH includes belief in the doctrines of the Bible, of which the Church provides summaries in her three creeds. (Heb. xi. 6.) 3. OBEDIENCE: God's will and commandments are found at length in the Bible; but the Church provides a summary of duty-The Decalogue. (Matt. v. 19.) |
