TO WILLIAM WARD TAILBY, ESQ.,

QUENBY HALL,

LORD OF THE MANOR OF WELHAM, &c.

MY DEAR MR. TAILBY,

When I first made up my mind to dedicate this second volume of "the Chronicle of the Christian Ages" to you, you were then holding the important office of High Sheriff of the County of Leicester; and since that time you have never ceased to take an interest in all that relates to its welfare, and especially in this district with which you were more immediately connected. I take this opportunity of thanking you for your patronage of this work: and through you I beg to return my sincere thanks to the Lord Lieutenant, the Members of the County, and to all the Subscribers who have so liberally encouraged me with their support. My undertaking is now brought to a conclusion: and if some delay has occurred in bringing it before the Subscribers, I trust that delay will be compensated for in the greater, though by no means perfect, accuracy attained by the frequent revision

of the whole.

Believe me,

Dear Mr. Tailby,

Your most obedient servant,

JOHN HARWOOD HILL.

CRANOE RECTORY, July 25th, 1859.
