I__The following extract from Ordnance Pamphlet, No. 1717, March 11, 1912, "Instructions for Assembling the Infantry Equipment, Model of 1910," is published for the information and guidance of all troops using web cartridge belts having pockets provided with retaining straps: Unsnap the flap of the pocket and the interior retaining strap; lay the retaining strap out flat in prolongation of the pocket, insert a clip of cartridges, points of bullets up, in front of the retaining strap; press down until the base of the clip rests on the bottom of the pocket; pass the retaining strap over the bullet points and fasten it to the outside of the pocket by means of the fastener provided; insert a second clip of cartridges, points of bullets down, in rear of the first clip; press down until the points of the bullets rest on the bottom of the pocket; close the flap of the pocket and fasten by means of the fastener provided. The remaining nine pockets are filled in like manner. * The purpose of the retaining strap is to prevent the loss of the second clip of cartridges when the first clip shall have been removed from the pocket, even though the pocket flap be not fastened. From reports received it appears that in a great many cases cartridges are crowded into the pocket on top of the retaining strap jammed in the bottom of the pocket. This stretches the flap of the pocket over the projecting clips and causes unnecessary wear on the flap. The retaining strap should be utilized as described above. [2261783, A. G. O.] II. The following is published for the information and guidance of all concerned: 1. A soldier sentenced to dishonorable discharge, the execution of which has been suspended, is a prisoner within the meaning of the word "prisoners," as used in the first sentence of paragraph 938, Army Regulations. 2. The commandants of the United States Disciplinary Barracks and its branches are authorized to call upon the company commander concerned for a descriptive list, completed to the date of dishonorable discharge, in the case of each dishonorably discharged general prisoner recommended by the barracks authorities for restoration to honorable duty. |
