a fair and impartial trial before the Board of Control. The board shall have power and are hereby authorized (in their discretion) to make contracts for the purchase of fuel for twelve months, provided this shall not extend beyond the tenure of office of the board, unless ratified by the succeeding board. The board shall also have power and authority (in their discretion) to let the meat contract for six months, if by so doing (they) can obtain a better quality of meat, and upon recommendation of the Superintendent in writing, in case of bad meat, the contract shall be revoked.

In case of the destruction by fire or tornado of either of the institutions, the board in control shall have power and are hereby authorized, upon the approval of the Governor, to borrow money at a reasonable rate of interest to immediately replace same.

SECTION 3. The Board of Trustees, with the superintendent, shall elect all teachers and employees provided for in section one (1) of this Act, and shall discharge the same for failing to faithfully perform their duties or for conduct unbecoming one holding their position.

SECTION 4. The superintendent is hereby empowered upon the approval of the president of the board, to purchase all supplies of an emergency nature, the bills thus made to take the regular course; provided, that he make at no time a purchase to exceed one hundred dollars ($100).

SECTION 5. That the Board of Trustees of the State Charitable Institutions shall be authorized to pay interest on money borrowed by the Governor, twelve hundred and forty dollars ($1,240). ($1,240). To pay interest on teachers' salaries, ten hundred and forty-five dollars ($1,045).

SECTION 6. No money appropriated by this Act for one purpose shall be used for any other purpose.

SECTION 7. That all laws and parts of laws in conflict herewith are hereby repealed, and this Act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

ACT 3.

AN ACT to amend section 3741 of Kirby's Digest of the Statutes of Arkansas.

SECTION

I. Amend section 3741 of Kirby's Digest, relating to officers

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas:

SECTION I. That section 3741 of Kirby's Digest of the Statutes of Arkansas be amended to read as follows:

The Senate may elect a secretary who shall receive the sum of six dollars per day, and three assistant secretaries and one journal clerk who shall each receive the sum of five dollars per day, and one chaplain who shall receive the sum of four dollars per day, and one sergeantat-arms who shall receive the sum of four dollars per day, and one assistant sergeant-at-arms who shall receive the sum of three dollars per day, and one janitor who shall receive the sum of three dollars per day, and one assistant janitor who shall receive the sum of three dollars per day, and three pages who shall each receive the sum of two dollars and fifty cents per day. Provided, that the

president may appoint an assistant sergeant-at-arms in case the sergeant-at-arms shall be absent on account of sickness or official duties.

SECTION 2. That this Act take effect and be in full force from and after its passage.

AN ACT to increase the salary of the County and Probate Judge of Baxter County, Arkansas.

I. Salary of County Judge of Baxter County fixed at $600.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas:

SECTION 1. That section 7395 of Kirby's Digest of the laws of Arkansas be amended so as to read as follows: Section 7395. The salary of the County and Probate Judge of Baxter County shall be six hundred dollars.

SECTION 2. All Acts and parts of Acts in conflict with this Act be and the same are hereby repealed, and this Act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

I. Salary of County Judge of Franklin County fixed at $800.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas:

SECTION I. That section seven thousand four hundred and sixteen (7416) of William F. Kirby's Digest of the Statutes of Arkansas be so amended as to hereafter read as follows: The salary of the County and Probate Judge of Franklin County shall be eight hundred dollars

per annum.

SECTION 2. All Acts and parts of Acts in conflict herewith are hereby repealed, and this Act shall take effect and be in force from and after the date of passage.

AN ACT to amend section 7430 of Kirby's Digest.

SECTION

I. Salary of County Judge of Lawrence County fixed at $1,000.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas:

SECTION I. That section 7430 of Kirby's Digest be amended to read as follows: Section 7430. The salary of the County and Probate Judge of Lawrence County shall be one thousand dollars ($1,000) per annum.

SECTION 2. That all laws and parts of laws in conflict herewith are hereby repealed, and this Act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

ACT 7.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the town of Atkins, Pope County, Arkansas, to make a donation out of the funds of its treasury to aid the school of said

town.

I. Council of Atkins allowed to donate funds to the special school district of Atkins.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas:

SECTION I. That the town council of Atkins, Pope County, Arkansas, is hereby authorized and empowered to appropriate and contribute out of any funds in the treasury of said town of Atkins, such sums of money as
