ACT 239.

AN ACT making appropriations for the expenses of the Legislative, Executive and Judicial Departments of the State Government.

SECTION

I. Appropriations for the executive, legislative and judicial departments of the State government.

2.

Miscellaneous appropriations for various department, print-
ing, binding, stationery, etc.

3. Appropriations for salaries, etc., of railroad commission.
4. Appropriations for janitors of state departments, etc.

5. Appropriations to pay salaries, mileage and per diem of
trustees of charitable institutions, etc.

6. Manner of paying claims against contingent expenses of State departments.

7.

Debts may not be contracted for the State beyond the amount appropriated.

8. Act in force from passage.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas:

SECTION I. That the following named sums be, and the same are hereby appropriated for the objects hereinafter expressed, for the fiscal years, beginning on the 1st day of April, 1905, and ending on the 31st day of March, 1907.

LEGISLATIVE.

First. For indexing the journals of the General Assembly of 1905 by the Secretary of the Senate and Chief Clerk of the House, the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150). Provided, That the Journal of the General Assembly shall be printed under the general law providing for the printing of the State, and the same shall be paid for out of the appropriation provided for in section 2 of this Act.

JUDICIAL DEPARTMENT.

Second. For the salary of five Supreme Judges, thirty thousand dollars ($30,000).

For the salary of eighteen Circuit Judges, seventy-two thousand dollars ($72,000).

For the salary of eleven Chancery Judges, fifty thousand dollars ($50,000).

For the salary of seventeen Prosecuting Attorneys, six thousand eight hundred dollars ($6,800).

For the salary of Supreme Court Reporter, four thousand dollars ($4,000).

For the salaries of Special Judges and Chancellors, six thousand dollars ($6,000).

For the salaries of Prosecuting Attorneys pro tempore, five hundred dollars ($500).

For the salary of Supreme Court Librarian for two years, eighteen hundred dollars ($1,800).

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT.

Third. For the salary of the Governor, six thousand dollars ($6,000).

For the salary of Secretary of State, four thousand five hundred dollars ($4,500).

For the salary of Auditor, four thousand five hundred dollars ($4,500).

For salary of Treasurer, four thousand five hundred dollars ($4,500).

For salary of Attorney General, five thousand dollars ($5,000).

For salary of Commissioner of State Lands, three thousand six hundred dollars ($3,600).

For the salary of Superintendent of Public Instruction, five thousand dollars ($5,000).

For salary of Commissioner of Mines, Manufactures and Agriculture, three thousand six hundred dollars ($3,600).

For the salary of Inspector of Mines, four thousand dollars ($4,000).

*For compiling State Mine Inspector's reports, the sum of six hundred dollars ($600).

*For salary of Superintendent of the Penitentiary, four thousand two hundred dollars ($4,200).

*For salary of the Clerk of the Penitentiary, two thousand four hundred dollars ($2,400).

*For salary of the Physician of the Penitentiary, three thousand six hundred dollars ($3,600).

*For the salary of the Chaplain of the Penitentiary, eighteen hundred dollars ($1,800).

*For salary of the Secretary of the Board of Penitentiary Commissioners, thirty-six hundred dollars ($3,600).

*For traveling expenses of the Secretary of the Board of Penitentiary Commissioners, Superintendent and Physician of the Penitentiary while on official business, five hundred dollars ($500); provided, that all moneys drawn for this purpose must be upon verified itemized statement to the Auditor.

Fourth. For rewards for the arrest of fugitives from justice, six thousand dollars ($6,000).

For rent of Governor's mansion, including water and lights, two thousand dollars ($2,000).

For repairs of State House and Grounds, one thousand two hundred and fifty dollars ($1,250).

For fuel, water and lights for the State Departments, two thousand seven hundred dollars ($2,700).

*These items vetoed by the Governor.

For salary of two Capital and State House Police, to be paid upon the order of the State Treasurer, and by that officer employed, two thousand four hundred dollars ($2,400).

For salary of the Day Watchman of State House and Grounds, nine hundred and sixty dollars ($960); provided, that the person employed to care for and improve said State House and Grounds shall devote his entire time and service to that end and purpose.

For postage, expressage and stationery for the use of the several State Departments, six thousand dollars ($6,000).

For copying, indexing and distributing the Acts of the present session of the General Assembly by the Secretary of State, four hundred dollars ($400).

For pay of State's proportion of Assessor's fees for the years 1905 and 1906, sixty-six thousand five hundred dollars ($66,500).

SECTION 2. For pay for all printing, publishing and binding required by law to be done for the State, and not otherwise provided for, thirty thousand dollars ($30,000).

GOVERNOR'S OFFICE.

Fifth. For the salary of the Governor's Private Secretary and one Clerk, five thousand dollars ($5,000). For contingent expenses, two thousand dollars ($2,000).

OFFICE OF SECRETARY OF STATE.

Sixth. For salary of Deputy Secretary of State, three thousand dollars ($3,000).

For salary of two Clerks, four thousand eight hundred dollars ($4,800).

One typewriter, one hundred dollars ($100).

For contingent expenses, four hundred dollars ($400).

For rent of telephone, seventy-two dollars ($72).

The desk now being used by the Enrolling Clerk of the House shall be used in the Secretary of State's office after the adjournment of the 35th General Assembly.

For one safe for keeping bonds, contracts and other valuable records, two hundred dollars ($200).

For repairs of the Secretary of State's library, two hundred dollars ($200).

ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE.

*Seventh. For salary for one Clerk, three thousand dollars ($3,000).

For salary of one stenographer, two thousand dollars ($2,000).

For contingent expenses, five hundred dollars ($500). For purchasing books for the office, two hundred and fifty dollars ($250).

AUDITOR'S OFFICE.

Eighth. For salary for Deputy Auditor, three thousand six hundred dollars ($3,600).

For salary for one Clerk, three thousand dollars ($3,000).

For salary for three Clerks, one of whom shall be a practical printer, seven thousand two hundred dollars ($7,200).

For contingent expenses, two hundred and fifty dollars ($250).

For metal filing cases, five hundred dollars ($500).
For one carpet, eighty-five dollars ($85).

For rent of telephone, seventy-two dollars ($72).
