During the past year several new buildings were constructed and improvements were made to the steam plant, while many other additions were made to the equipment of the Home.

More than 14,000 feet of cement walks were laid which, with the walks constructed during the two previous years, has added greatly to the comfort and convenience of the members and to the beauty of the Home.

The Home library now contains about ten thousand volumes, and there have been many contributions during the year of books and old magazines from friends of the Home and patriotic societies. The amusement hall, which was constructed several years ago at a cost of about $30,000, has a seating capacity of about 1,200, with a fine stage. During the winter months regular weekly concerts are given by the Home orchestra, and the hall is occupied more or less the year round.

The Home has an abundant supply of water furnished by two artesian four-inch wells having a capacity of 200,000 gallons per day. A cement bottom was laid in the reservoir during the past year, and valves attached to draw off the water so that it can be cleaned at any time.

Owing to the age and physical infirmities of the members of the Home there is always a large hospital population. The

average daily population of the hospital during the past year was 358 as compared with 338 during the previous year. The total attendance at sick-call of men from the company barracks was 23,185.
