The following statement of the disposition of the appropriations for extraordinary repairs and improvements is brought up to the date of calculation, which is March 1, 1906; this having been done with a view to giving an exact knowledge of the conditions that subsequent requirements might be more closely estimated: (Chapter 729, Laws of 1904.)

Work is now under way on ward building J, which, it is expected, will be completed during the current fiscal year, with accommodations for 200 inmates.

Another improvement during the year was the purchase of a farm of 177 acres of land, with farm buildings thereon. This farm adjoins the original State farm on the south, and the adjoining farms occupy a block of land surrounded on three sides by public highways, in all comprising 527 acres.

The State will take possession of the additional land March 1st, when it is intended that a colony of sixteen of the brightest inmates will be transferred to the farm, as an isolated colony under the direction of a farmer and his wife, to demonstrate what can be done along the line of agricultural colonization.

Additional machinery has been installed in the extension to the laundry and the work of wiring the new laundry for purpose of lighting and supplying electric equipment to all ironing machinery, flat irons, mangle, etc., is planned.
