447. L.M.-Christians seeking a City to come. Heb. xi. 14. 1 “WE'VE no abiding city here;' · This may distress the worldly mind, But should not cost the saint a tear, Who hopes a better rest to find. 2 “ We've no abiding city here;” Sad truth, were this to be our home; But let this truth our spirits cheer, We seek a city yet to come. 3 “ We've no abiding city here,” Then let us live as pilgrims do; Let not the world our rest appear, But let us haste from all below. 4.“ We've no abiding city here,' We seek a city out of sight; Zion's its name— the Lord is there, It shines with everlasting light. 5 O! sweet abode of peace and love, Where pilgrims freed from toil are blest! Had I the pinions of the dove, I'd fly to thee, and be at rest. 6 But hush, my soul, nor dare repine! The time my God appoints is best: While here, to do his will be mine, And his to fix my time of rest. 448. I feel distrest and fearful: How can my soul be cheerful? And place on him reliance; My soul is then asham’d of fear, I bid them all defiance. With joyful hope elated; Strong in the Lord, in him alone, Where he conducts I follow on With ardour unabated. With all thy people yonder; With gratitude and wonder. 449. C.M.- The Christian's future Rest. 1 WE seek a rest beyond the skies, In everlasting day; Through floods and flames the passage lies, But Jesus guards the way. Hear and obey his word; Our Saviour is the Lord. 450. Your great Deliverer sing; Be joyful in your King. How holy and how plain! Nor ask the track in vain. Through such a Son, Thy Church's Head, O’er worlds unknown. 2 Ten thousand gifts of love From Thee, through Him, descend; Sustain'd by God, And through the road His arm adore. Shall by the Saviour rise, And loud proclaim The honour'd Name, 440. C.M.- Praise to the Redeemer. 1 TO Christ the Lord, let every tongue Its noblest tribute bring : Who can refuse to sing? And on his glories dwell: And all his triumphs tell. Upon his awful brow: His lips with grace o'erflow. 4 No mortal can with him compare, Among the sons of men: That fill the heavenly train. 5 He saw me plung'd in deep distress, He flew to my relief; And carried all my grief. And all the joys I have: And saves me from the grave. 7 His hand a thousand blessings pours Upon my guilty head; And guards my sleeping bed. He brings my weary feet; And makes my joys complete. 9 Since from his bounty I receive Such proofs of love divine, Lord, they should all be thine. my God, 441. P.M.-Praise for Redeeming Love. 1 NOW begin the heavenly theme, Sing aloud in Jesus' name: Triumph in redeeming love. Beaming in the Saviour's face, 3 Mourning souls, dry up your tears, Banish all your guilty fears; Cancell'd by redeeming love. 4 Ye, alas! who long have been Willing slaves of death and sin, Stop, and taste redeeming love. 5 Welcome all, by sin opprest, Welcome to his sacred rest: Nothing but redeeming love. Those tremendous foes of ours, Mighty in redeeming love. Strike aloud each cheerful string; 442. C.M.- The Name of Jesus. 1 THOU dear Redeemer, dying Lamb! We love to hear of thee; Nor half so sweet can be. 2 O let us ever hear thy voice In mercy to us speak! Thou great Melchisedec. While in this world we stay; We'll sing our Jesus' lovely name, When all things else decay. |
