$1.00 "I have heard him (Bishop M'Ilvaine) preach but once, and that was in St. Jude's Church, Sixth Avenue, New York. He is the only Episcopal clergyman that I have ever heard preach extemporaneous, with the exception of Bishop Henshaw, of Rhode Island, and I have heard many, both in Great Britain and America. He is plain in appearance, and in manner earnest, fervent, and impressive-full of his subject-a God serving preacher. He resembles what we might suppose Thomas A. Kempis, Pascal, and Fenelon were in the Roman Catholic Church, Bishops Taylor and Beveredge, Thomas Scott and Mr. Pitcairn in the Episcopal Church, Boston, Rutherford and the Erskines in the Presbyterian Church, and Owen, Baxter, Goodwin, and Colamy among the Nonconformists. Any work from his pen must be possessed of great value to his fellow men."- Western Memoribilia.
