Mr. Pettit offered the following amendment to the resolution of Mr. Kilgore:

After the word "duties," add the words, " and a Sergeant-at-Arms and Door-keeper."

Which amendment was not adopted.

Mr. Kent submitted the following amendment to the resolution offered by Mr. Kilgore:

Strike out from the resolving clause and insert the following: "That the Convention now proceed to the election of a Principal Secretary."

Mr Foster moved to amend the amendment

"That the officers of this Convention shall be a Principal Secretary, two Assistant Secretaries, a Door-keeper, and a Sergeant-atArms, to be elected by a viva voce vote in the order in which they are named;"

Which was rejected.

The question then recurring upon the amendment offered by Mr. Kent,

It was concurred in.

And the resolution, as amended, was then adopted.

Mr. Pettit then moved that the Convention do now adjourn. And the ayes and noes being demanded by Messrs. Kilgore and Robinson:

The Convention then proceeded to the election of Principal Secretary.

William H. English, of the county of Scott, having received a majority of the whole number of votes given, was declared duly elected Principal Secretary to the Convention, and being sworn by the Hon. Isaac Blackford, the Senoir Judge of the Supreme Court of Indiana, proceeded to the discharge of the duties of his office.

After the second ballot,

Mr. Kilgore moved that the Convention adjourn;
Which motion did not prevail.

The names of Joseph S. Buckles, George L. Sites, and Andrew J. Boone were withdrawn after the second ballot.

On motion,

The Convention adjourned until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

TUESDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 8, 1850.

The Convention met pursuant to adjournment.

Edmund D. Taylor, a Delegate from the county of Laporte, appeared, produced his credentials, and being duly sworn by the Hon. Isaac Blackford, took his seat.

Mr. Borden introduced the following resolution:

Resolved, That Robert M. Evans, Herman G. Barkwell, and Geo. L. Sites be, and they are hereby appointed Assistant Secretaries to this Convention.

Mr. Robinson moved to amend as follows:

"That in the opinion of this Convention, one Principal and one Assistant Secretary will be amply sufficient to discharge all the duties growing out of the action of the Convention; the Convention will now proceed to the election of one Assistant Secretary, and no more, who, together with the Principal Secretary elect, shall discharge the duties of Secretaries to this Convention."

Mr. Steele moved to amend the amendment by adding"Additional Secretaries if required."

Mr. Miller of Gibson, moved to lay the pending amendments on the table.

On which motion the ayes and noes were demanded by two gentlemen, which resulted as follows:

"That the Convention now proceed to elect two Assistant Secretaries."
