REDEMPTION. Hymn. Redemption by Christ. 1 DEAREST of all the names above, My JESUS and my GOD, The value of Thy blood! 2 'Tis by the merits of Thy death Thy FATHER's love is seen ; 'Tis by Thy interceding breath The Spirit dwells with men, 3 Till God in human flesh I see, My thoughts no comfort find; Are terrors to my mind. 4 But if IMMANUEL's face appear, My hope, my joy begins ; His blood removes my sins. 5 While some on their own works rely, And some of wisdom boast, Thou great incarnate mystery, , In Thee is all my trust. Hymn. Redemption by Christ. 1 AND can it be that I should gain An interest in the SAVIOUR's blood ? Died He for me, who caus'd His pain? For me, who Him to death pursued ? Amazing love! how can it be That Thou, my LORD, should'st die for me? 2 'Tis mystery all! Th’ Immortal dies ! - Who can explore His strange design? In vain the first-born seraph tries To sound the depths of Love divine! 'Tis mercy all! let earth adore: Let angel-minds inquire no more. 3 He left His FATHER's throne above, (So free, so infinite His grace !) Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam's helpless race: 'Tis mercy all, immense and free, For, O my God, it found out me! 4 Long my imprison'd spirit lay Fast bound in sin and nature's night; Thine eye diffus'd a quick’ning ray; I woke; the dungeon flam'd with light! My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and follow'd Thee. 5 No condemnation now I dread, JESUS, and all in Him, is mine! Alive in Him my living Head, And cloth'd in righteousness divine, Bold I approach th' eternal throne, And claim the crown, thro' CHRIST, my own. Hymn. Shake off thy guilty fears; In my behalf appears : My name is written on His hands. 2 He ever lives above For me to intercede; His precious blood to plead: And sprinkles now the throne of grace. 3 Five bleeding wounds He bears, Receiv'd on Calvary; They strongly speak for me: His dear anointed One; The presence of His SON: And tells me I am born of God. 5 My God is reconcil'd; His pardoning voice I hear: I can no longer fear; Lymn. 1 HARK! the voice of Love and Mercy Sounds aloud from Calvary! Shakes the earth, and veils the sky! 2 It is finish'd! O what pleasure Do these charming words afford! It is finish'd ! 3 Finishd, all the types and shadows Of the ceremonial law; -Finish'd all that God had promis'd; Death and hell no more shall awe. It is finish'd ! Saints, from hence your comfort draw. 4 Tune your harps anew, ye seraphs; Join to sing the pleasing theme: Hallelujah! 1. Hymn. i FATHER, how wide Thy glory shines! How high Thy wonders rise! By thousands through the skies. Their motions speak Thy skill : And on the wings of every hour, We read Thy patience still. . 3 But when we view Thy strange design To save rebellious worms, In their divinest forms; de Here the whole Deity is known, Nor dares a creature guess The justice or the grace. • Adorn the heavenly plains; And try their choicest strains. 6 O may I bear some humble part In that immortal song ; And love command my tongue. |
