Salvation by Grace.
1 GRACE! 'tis a charming sound,

Harmonious to my ear;
Heav'n with the echo shall resound,

And all the earth shall hear. 2. Grace first contriv'd a way

• To save rebellious man, And all the steps that grace display;

Which drew the wondrous plan. 3 Grace taught my wand'ring feet

• To tread the heav'nly road, And new supplies each hour I meet,

While pressing on to God.
4 Grace all the work shall crown

Through everlasting days;
It lays in heav'n the topmost stone,

And well deserves the praise.

Justification by Faith. 1 How shall we stand, when CHRIST appears? ;

How come before our LORD?
At that dread hour will cries or tears

Avert the threat’ning sword ?
2 Shall sinners plead the costly blood

Of lambs or bullocks spilt ?
Shall they allege their hearts are good,

And think to hide their guilt?

3 Ah no; the LAMB of God alone,

The LAMB, whom God has sent,
Can for our num'rous sins atone,

And His just wrath prevent.
4 O LAMB of God! our sins forgive:

On Thee our hopes we place: Say to our troubled spirits, Live;

And save us by Thy grace.

Hymn.
Self-abasement and Justification.
1 My God, my God, to thee I cry;

Thee only would I know;
Thy purifying blood apply,

And wash me white as snow.
2 Touch me, and make the leper clean;

Purge my iniquity :
Unless Thou wash my soul from sin,

I have no part with Thee.
3 But art Thou not already mine?

Answer, if mine Thou art! Whisper within, Thou Love divine,

And cheer my drooping heart. 4 Tell me again my peace is made,

And bid the sinner live :
The debt's discharg'd, the ransom's paid,

My FATHER must forgive.
5 Behold, for me the Victim bleeds,

His wounds are open'd wide : For me the Blood of Sprinkling pleads,

And speaks me justified.

6 My humbled soul, when thou art near,

In dust and ashes lies :
How shall a sinful worm appear,

Or meet Thy purer eyes?

7 I loathe myself when God I see,

And into nothing fall; * Content if Thou exalted be,

And Christ be. All in All.

1 NOT all the outward forms on earth,

Nor rites that God has given,
Nor will of man, nor blood, nor birth,

Can raise a soul to heav'n.

2 The sov'reign will of God alone

Creates us heirs of grace; -
Born in the image of His Son

A new peculiar race.

3 The SPIRIT, like some heav'nly wind,

Blows on the sons of flesh,
New-models all the carnal mind,

And forms the man afresh.

4. Our quicken'd souls awake, and rise a

From the long sleep of death; . . On heav'nly things we fix our eyes,

And praise employs our breath.. . ...

1 COME, FATHER, Son, and HOLY GHOST,

One God in Persons THREE,
Bring back the heav'nly blessing, lost s

By all mankind and me.

2 Thy favour, and Thy nature too,

To me, to all restore;
Forgive, and after God renew,

And keep us evermore.
3 Eternal Sun of RIGHTEOUSNESS,

Display Thy beams divine,
And cause the glories of Thy face

Upon my heart to shine...
4. Light, in Thy light, О may I see!

Thy grace and mercy prove;
Reviv'd, and cheer'd, and bless'd by Thee, .

The God of pard’ning love. .. 5 Lift up Thy countenance serene,

And let Thy happy child
Behold, without a cloud between,

The GODHEAD reconcil'd! .

6 That all-comprising peace bestów

On me, through grace forgiv'n ; The joys of holiness below,

And then the joys of beay'n! .

1 STRAIT is the way, the door is strait

That leads to joys on high; "Tis but a few that find the gate,

While crowds mistake, and die.

2 Beloved self must be denied,

The mind and will renew'd,
Passion suppress'd, and patience tried,

And vain desires subdued.
3 Flesh is a dang'rous foe to grace,

Where it prevails and rules ;
Flesh must be humbled, pride abas’d,

Lest they destroy our souls.
4 The love of gold be banish'd hence,

(That vile idolatry:). And ev'ry member, ev'ry sense,

In sweet subjection lie. 5 The tongue, that most unruly pow'r,

Requires a strong restraint; . We must be watchful ev'ry hour,

And pray, but never faint.
6 LORD, can a feeble helpless worm

Fulfil a task so hard?
Thy grace must all my work perform,

And give the free reward.
