2 Though in a foreign land,

We are not far from home; ' And nearer to our rest above

We ev'ry moment come. i 3 God's grace will to the end,

Through all our journey shine;
Nor present things, nor things to come, ;

Shall quench His love divine.
When darkness veils our steps,

And foes our course molest;
Then is the time to trust our God,

And on His Name to rest. 5 Ah! why should guilty fears

Rob us of rest and peace?
The promise and the oath of GOD;

Confirm' our full release.

Hymn.

In a Storm.
i THE billows swell, the winds are high,

And clouds o'ercast my wintry sky
Out of the depths to Thee I call, 1.

My fears are great, my strength is small, 2 O LORD, the pilot's part perform,

And guide and guard me through the storm; Defend me from each threat'ning ill;

Control the waves; say, “Peace, be still." 3. Amidst the roaring of the season riu..

the roaring of the sea, who
My soul still hangs her hope on Thee :
Thy constant love, Thy faithful care,
Is all that saves me from despair.

4 Dangers of ev'ry shape and name

Attend the follow'rs of the LAMB, .
Who leave the world's deceitful shore,
And leave it to return no more.

5 Though tempest-toss'd, and half a wreck,
My Saviour through the floods I seek :
Let neither winds nor stormy main
Force back my shatter'd bark again.

Looking to God in the greut water-flood.

1 GOD of my life, to Thee I call;

Afflicted at Thy feet I fall:
When the great water-floods prevail,
Leave not my trembling heart to fail !

2 Friend of the friendless and the faint!

Where should I lodge my deep complaint?
Where but with Thee, whose open door
Invites the helpless and the poor!

3 Did ever mourner plead with Thee,
And thou refuse that mourner's plea ? '
Does not the word still fix'd remain,
That none shall seek Thy face in vain?

A That were a grief I could not bear,

Didst Thou not hear, and answer pray'ri But a pray'r-hearing, answ'ring. Gov, Supports me under ev'ry load.

5 Fair is the lot that's cast for me;

I have an Advocate with Thee :
They whom the world caresses most
Have no such privilege to boast.

6 Poor though I am, despis'd, forgot, ;

Yet God, my God, forgets me not;
And he is safe, and must succeed, on
For whom the LORD vouchsafes to plead.

In a Storm, with Christ our Refuge.
HY those fears? behold 'tis JESUS

olds the helm, and guides the ship: pread the sails, and catch the breezes Sent to waft us through the deep,

To the regions
Where the mourners cease to weep.

2 Could we stay where death was hov'ring?

Could we rest on such a shore?
No, the awful truth discov'ring,
We could linger there no more:

We forsake it;
Leaying all we lov'd before.

3 Though the shore we hope to land on,

Only by report is known;
Yet we freely, all abandon,
Led by that report alone;

And with JESUS,
Through the trackless deep move on,

4. Led by that, we brave the ocean';

Led by that, the storms defy;
Calm amidst tumultuous motion,
Knowing that our LORD is nigh.

Waves obey Him,
And the storms before Him fly.

5 Render'd safe by His protection,

We shall pass the wat'ry waste;
Trusting to His wise direction,
We shall gain the port at last ;

And with wonder
Think on toils and dangers past.

6 0! what pleasures there await us!

There the tempests cease to roar;
There it is that those who hate us
Can molest our peace no more.

Trouble ceases
On that tranquil happy shore.

Liyma.
In a Storm, with Christ our Refuge.

1 JESU, Lover of my soul,

Let me to Thy bosom fly, While the nearer waters roll,

While the tempest still is high : Hide me, O my SAVIOUR, hide,

Till the storm of life be past; Safe into the haven guide;

O receive my soul at last! .

2 Other refuge have I none,

Hangs my helpless soul on Thee: Leave, ah! leave me not alone,

Still support and comfort me: All my trust on Thee is stay'd; .

All my help from Thee I bring ; Cover my defenceless head

With the shadow of Thy wing !

3 Thou, O Christ, art all I want;

More than all in Thee I find; Raise the fallen, cheer the faint,

Heal the sick, and lead the blind : Just and holy is Thy name;

I am all unrighteousness : False and full of sin I am ;

Thou art full of truth and grace.

4 Plenteous grace with Thee is found,

Grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound,

Make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art,

Freely let me take of Thee: Spring thou up within my heart,

Rise to all eternity.

Struggle between Faith and Unbelief.
I JESUS, our souls' delightful choice,

In Thee, believing, we rejoice: .
Yet still our joy is mix'd with grief,
While faith contends with unbelief,
