Psalm XCI.

Protection from Sutan and every Plague.

1 HE that hath made his refuge GOD,
Shall find a most secure abode ;

Shall walk all day beneath His shade,
And there at night shall rest his head.

2 Then will I say, My GOD, thy pow'r
'Shall be my fortress and my tow'r;
'I that am form'd of feeble dust
'Make Thine Almighty arm my trust.'

3 Thrice happy man! thy Maker's care Shall keep thee from the fowler's snare, Satan, the fowler, who betrays Unguarded souls a thousand ways.

4 Just as a hen protects her brood

From birds of prey, that seek their blood,
Under her feathers; so the LORD
Makes His own arm His people's guard.

5 If burning beams of noon conspire
To dart a pestilential fire,

GOD is their life: His wings are spread
To shield them with an healthful shade.

6 If vapours with malignant breath
Rise thick, and scatter midnight death,
Israel is safe: the poison'd air
Grows pure, if, Israel's GOD be there.

Psalm XCII.

The Sabbath. Our eternal Rest.

1 SWEET is the work, my GOD, my King,
To praise Thy Name, give thanks and sing,
To show Thy love by morning-light,
And talk of all Thy truth at night.

2 Sweet is the day of sacred rest,
No mortal cares shall seize my breast;
may my heart in tune be found,
Like David's harp of solemn sound!

3 My heart shall triumph in my LORD,
And bless His works, and bless His Word:
Thy works of grace how bright they shine!
How deep Thy counsels! how divine!

4 But I shall share a glorious part
When grace.hath well refin'd my heart,
And fresh supplies of joy are shed,
Like holy oil, to cheer my head.

5 Sin (my worst enemy before)
Shall vex my eyes and ears no more;
My inward foes shall all be slain,
Nor Satan break my peace again.

6 Then shall I see, and hear, and know,
All I desir'd or wish'd below;
And ev'ry pow'r find sweet employ
In that eternal world of joy,

Psalm XCV.

God our Maker and Shepherd.-Unbelief and Hardness of Heart.

COME, sweet anthems let us raise,
The strength of our salvation praise;
Before His presence come with joy,
With psalms our grateful lips employ !

2 Great is the awful Gop we sing,
Above all gods He reigns, a King;
Earth's farthest corner owns His hand,
And in His strength the mountains stand,
3 He made the sea the land surround,
His hands prepar'd the solid ground:
Come, prostrate fall, devotion feel;
Before the LORD our Maker kneel.

4 This GOD is ours-His sheep He feeds,
His people forth to pasture leads:
To-day He asks your instant choice,
Steel not your hearts, but hear his voice,
5 "Your fathers long disdain'd My law,
Though forty years My works they saw,
And through the wilderness were led :
Till tempted, prov'd, and griev'd—I said,
6 This people's heart to err is prone;
My righteous ways they have not known:
To whom, in awful wrath, I sware,

Their souls my rest should never share.”

7 LORD, from our souls let songs proceed :
As Maker rule, as Shepherd feed;

All hardness from our hearts remove,
And fit us for Thy rest above!

Psalm XCVI.

Advent of Christ.

1 SING to the LORD, ye distant lands,
Ye tribes of ev'ry tongue;
His new-discover'd grace demands
A new and nobler song.

2 Say to the nations, JESUS reigns,
GOD's own Almighty SON:

His pow'r the sinking world sustains,
And grace surrounds His throne.

3 Let Heav'n proclaim the joyful day,
Joy through the earth be seen;
Let cities shine in bright array,
And fields in cheerful green.

5 Behold He comes! He comes to bless
The nations as their God;

1

To show the world His righteousness,
And send His truth abroad.

Psalm XCVIII.

Kingdom of Christ.

JOY to the World! the LORD is come:
Let earth receive her King;
Let ev'ry heart prepare Him room,

And Heav'n and Nature sing.

[ocr errors]

2 Joy to the earth! the SAVIOUR reigns: Let men their songs employ;

While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains,
Repeat the sounding joy.

3 No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;

He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found.

4 He rules the world with truth and
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love.

Psalm C.

All Mankind invited to Praise and Worship God.

ALL people that on earth do dwell,

Sing to the LORD with cheerful voice; Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell, Come ye before Him and rejoice.

2 The LORD, ye know, is God indeed; Without our aid He did us make; We are His flock, He doth us feed,

And for His sheep He doth us take.

3 O enter then His gates with praise, Approach with joy His courts unto: Praise, laud, and bless His Name always, For it is seemly so to do.

4 For why? the LORD our GOD is good; His mercy is for ever sure;

His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age

endure.
