Associations and Societies.

Vermont State Medical Society.

Organized in 1814. The annual meeting is held on the first Thursday and Friday after the second Wednesday in October at a place determined by vote at the previous annual meeting.

Any member guilty of intoxication, unprofessional or irregular practice, or of gross immorality, or for other good reasons, may be expelled or suspended from the society by a twothirds vote of the house of delegates.

The society is an integral part of the American Medical Association and shall elect delegates and transact other business in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws of the American Medical Association.

The society may elect two honorary members, non-residents of the state, each year.

In counties not having a society, any physician in good standing may become a member of the society of any adjoining county, or, may be elected to membership in the State Medical Society upon recommendation of a member of the board of censors, by a two-thirds vote of the house of delegates, paying the annual dues of one dollar, and subscribing to the by-laws.

Delegates are appointed annually to represent the society in the medical department of the University of Vermont, and of Dartmouth College at the examination of candidates for graduation, also to the Connecticut River Valley Medical Society, the White Mountain Medical Association, the White River Valley Medical Association, the State Medical Societies of the New England States, New York State, and other states, as may be decided upon.

Rutland County Medical Society.

Organized Feb. 7, 1877, at Castleton, Vt. The meetings are generally held at Berwick Hotel at Rutland, Vt.; occasionally in other parts of the county. The meetings are held quarterly, the annual meeting in July.

Candidates for membership must be regular physicians in good standing, approved by censors and elected by a majority vote.

Windham County Medical Society.

Organized in September, 1902. The annual meeting is held on the third Thursday in September at Brattleboro, Vt.; the other meetings in May and January at places determined by

vote.

Candidates for membership must present a diploma from a recognized medical college. President, E. R. Campbell, M.D.; Secretary, G. R. Anderson, M.D.; Treasurer, A. I. Miller, M.D.

Medical Society of Troy and Vicinity.

Organized Aug. 15, 1843. The meetings are held quarterly, usually at Newport, Vt.
Candidates for membership must be regular physicians in good standing.

Caledonia County Medical and Surgical Society.

Organized Sept. 8, 1902. The meetings are held the second Tuesdays in January, April and July and the third Thursday in October.

Candidates for membership must be graduates of a regular medical college and be recommended by one or more censors.

Washington County Medical Society.

Organized in June, 1902. The annual meeting is held in September; other meetings on the second Tuesday of December, March and June at places designated by the Executive Committee.

Any physician, a graduate of a regular medical college, upon the recommendation of the censors, may be elected to membership.

Members residing in the county or adjoining counties not having a county society are active members; other members are associate members.

Barre Medical Society.

A two years' course is offered in general nursing. An allowance of eight dollars a month the first year and ten dollars a month the second year.

St. Albans Hospital.

State Hospital for Insane.
Waterbury, Vt.

A two years' course in the nursing and care of the insane. Address communications for particulars to the superintendent.

Mary Fletcher Hospital.
Burlington, Vt.

A three years' course is given to women, and includes general medical and surgical nursing, together with ophthalmic, aural, and gynecological nursing; 108 nurses have been graduated since 1887; there are now about 22 nurses in the school.

Fanny Allen Hospital.

Winooski, Vt. (P. O., Burlington.)

The regular course is for two years, and includes general and surgical nursing together with special nursing, except maternity nursing which is not provided for at the hospital, though attendance upon one case outside the hospital is provided for. While in training the pupils may be employed as assistant nurses in the wards and the operating rooms.

A course is provided for those who may wish to learn something of general nursing. The school year begins in April and continues for two months.

Terms: Registration, $2.00; full course, $10.00; theoretical course, $5.00; graduates of other schools, $5.00.
