CENTRAL LAW JOURNAL CO.:

My copy of your new two-volume "Federalist" has at once found a place on my "handy shelf," whereon I keep the books for evening study which seem best to please the fancy and enrich the mind.

These essays were not unknown to me, but the form in which you offer them, like old friends better dressed, gives them an added charm. They are ideal examples of the book-maker's art for the practical man. The engravings are not dull, map-like things, but living things which offer a fine opportunity to study the persons of the great men who wrote for our advantage. Then, too, each volume is light enough to require little effort in holding it, and the large, bold type on the dull finish of the paper is especially pleasing to one who finds he must deal kindly with his eyes.

It is unusual for me to say such things as these, but then this edition is an unusual production, and merits every man's praise. I am really thankful to you for the advertisement which brought it to my attention.

Washington, D. C.

Sincerely,

GLENN WILLETT.

American Advocacy

SECOND EDITION

BY

ALEXANDER H. ROBBINS

Professor of Advocacy and Legal Ethics in St. Louis
University Institute of Law.

The first edition of this work was received with great favor by lawyers all over the country and adopted in twelve law schools as the best text-book on the subject of advocacy and legal ethics.

Advocacy is the study of the "personal equation" in the application of law to actual conditions of life. To be able to win the mind and the confidence of court, jury and witnesses and the respect and esteem of one's profession is the most important element in a successful career at the bar.

There is included in this volume the full, official publication. of the American Bar Association's Canons of Professional Ethics, upon which candidates for admission to the bar must stand examination in most of the states of the Union.
