MORNING PRAYER

FOR

GOOD FRIDAY.

Truly this was the Son of God!

MORNING PRAYER

FOR

GOOD FRIDAY.

The Minister and People being in their accustomed places, the Minister shall begin the Service by repeating reverently the following Sentences.

Behold, the Lamb of God!

Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? Behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto His sorrow.

He was despised, and rejected of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.

Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sor

rows.

Antiphon.

Minister and People.

Hail, holy Day!

Sacred Memorial

Of our Saviour's darkest hour,

When the gentlest, yet mightiest, of our race,
Was led as a Lamb to the slaughter!
As a sheep before her shearers is dumb,
So opened He not His mouth;
Patient to the end, stedfast, and serene.
Yet, in this basest of mortal sins,
For ever stands revealed

The breadth and length,
The depth and height, of
The Love of God our Saviour,

Who came to live and die for us, That we might learn to live with God, and For one another,

The life of sacrifice, and supremest love.

Then shall choir and congregation sing this Hymn
Praise to the Holiest in the height,
And in the depth be praise;
In all His words most wonderful,
Most sure in all His ways.

O loving wisdom of our God,
When all was sin and shame,
A second Adam to the fight,
And to the rescue came.

O wisest Love! that flesh and blood
Which did in Adam fail,

Should strive afresh against the foe,
Should strive and should prevail;

And that a higher gift than grace
Should flesh and blood refine,
God's presence and His very Self
And Essence all divine.

O generous love! that He who smote
In Man for man the foe,
The double agony in Man
For man should undergo;
