R THE CREATION OF MAN. LTHOUGH man was made lord of this world of beings, he was not the first living inhabitant of the earth. The sea and the air were tenanted by their various orders of animals before the land brought forth its tribes, and man was last of all put in possession of the new domain. Thus the noblest terrestrial work of God was reserved to complete creation; and it is to be A noted, that the formation of the irrational creatures is related in a very concise and transient manner, whereas the creation of man is described more particularly, and is referred to several times in the first chapters of the Book of Genesis,-accompanied, too, with the highest mark of distinction, that the Almighty made man IN HIS OWN We shall never fully understand the vast import of this express declaration of Holy Writ, until that image, lost in the Fall, is restored in the future world. The Bible abounds with texts referring our origin to the Supreme Being, but the first and second chapters of Genesis supply the earliest historical particulars regarding it that we possess. IMAGE.
