CHAP. 122.-An Act Granting an increase of pension to Gustav Schwartz.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Gustav Schwartz, late of Company E, First Regiment Michigan Volunteer Cavalry, and pay him a pension at the rate of fifty dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving. Siegfried, late medical inspector, United States Navy, and pay her a pension at the rate of forty dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving, with two dollars additional on account of the child Margareta M. until she shall have reached the age of sixteen years. Lazear, widow of Jesse W. Lazear, late acting assistant and contract surgeon, United States Army, and pay her a pension at the rate of seventeen dollars per month, and two dollars additional for each of the minor children of the said Jesse W. Lazear until they shall have reached the age of sixteen years.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to pay to the trustees of Carson and Newman College, formerly the Mossycreek Baptist College, at Jefferson City, Tennessee, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of six thousand dollars, in full compensation for the use, occupation, and consumption of the property of said college and trustees by the military forces of the United States during the late war of the rebellion. CHAP. 137.-An Act To authorize Commander James M. Miller, United States Navy; Surgeon Oliver D. Norton, United States Navy, and Mr. Edwin V. Morgan, formerly secretary of the Samoan Commission and now secretary of the legation of the United States at Seoul, Korea, to accept presents tendered to them by His Majesty the Emperor of Germany.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That Commander James M. Miller, United States Navy; Surgeon Oliver D. Norton, United States Navy, and Mr. Edwin V. Morgan, formerly secretary of the Samoan Em- Commission and now secretary of the legation of the United States at Seoul, Korea, be, and they are hereby, authorized to accept, respectively, a gold watch and chain, a marine glass, and a silver writing table, tendered to them through the Department of State of the United States by His Majesty the Emperor of Germany, King of Prussia; and the Department of State is hereby authorized to deliver the testimonials mentioned to them.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Mary Chambers, widow of Thomas Chambers, of Mackinac, Michigan, the sum of three thousand six hundred and fifty-four dollars and fifty-six cents, in full compensation for the additional expenses incurred by him in carrying the Canada mails, as contractor on route numbered twenty-four thousand four hundred and thirteen, from Sault de Sainte Marie, Michigan, to Mackinac, Michigan, from July first, eighteen hundred and seventyfive, to June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and seventy-nine, inclusive, he having contracted to carry the United States mails only.
