CHAP. 204.-An Act Granting an increase of pension to Joel Metz.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Joel Metz, late of Company E, Sixth Regiment Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving. Approved, March 11, 1902.

CHAP. 205.-An Act Granting an increase of pension to Benjamin Brittingham.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Benjamin Brittingham, late of Company K, One hundred and seventh Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Wright H. Auchmoody, late of Company I, Fiftysixth Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Francis Pearson, alias James F. Pearston, late of Company E, Third Regiment Michigan Volunteer Cavalry, and pay him a pension at the rate of twenty-four dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension

laws, the name of Eva H. McColley, widow of Jacob M. McColley, late of Company B, Thirty-third Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and pay her a pension at the rate of twelve dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving.

CHAP. 209.-An Act Granting a pension to Aaron M. Applegate.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Aaron M. Applegate, late pilot United States steamer Baltic of the Mississippi Marine Brigade, and pay him a pension at the rate of twelve dollars per month.

Murray, late colonel One hundred and forty-eighth New York Volunteer Infantry, and pay her a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving.

Robinson, late of Company G, Sixth Regiment Iowa Volunteer Cavalry, and pay him a pension at the rate of twenty-four dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving. Approved, March 11, 1902.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to pay to William C. Marr, of Popham Beach, Sagadahoc County, Maine, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of twenty-five dollars, for his services as first assistant keeper of Seguin Island light, Maine, during the month of July, anno Domini eighteen hundred and sixty-six.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to pay Charles Hurrle, late of Troop E, Sixth United States Cavalry, for extra duty as post interpreter at Fort Apache, Arizona, from October twenty-ninth, eighteen hundred and seventy-nine, to May fourth, eighteen hundred and eighty-one, inclusive, at the rate of fifty cents per day, and from May fifth, eighteen hundred and eighty-one, to June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and eighty-one, inclusive, at the rate of seventy-five dollars per month.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the President be, and hereby is, authorized and empowered to revoke and set aside Special

Orders, Numbered One hundred and forty-seven, paragraph fifty-seven, War Department, Adjutant-General's Office, dated March twentyseventh, eighteen hundred and sixty-five, dismissing George K. Bowen, lieutenant-colonel One hundred and eighty-eighth Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and to cause to be issued to him an honorable discharge as of date March twenty-seventh, eighteen hundred and sixty-five: Provided, That no bounty, pay, or allowance shall accrue by virtue hereof.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United [Private, No. 178.] States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to William C. Dodge, of Washington, District of Columbia, the sum of ten thousand dollars, for a cartridge-loading machine furnished by him to the United States upon an order from the Ordnance Department, and for the use of his invention of the same, and of the patent therefor, dated July seventeenth, eighteen hundred and sixty-six, and for his improvement in cartridges, patented July fourth, eighteen hundred and sixty-five, and for the infringement of his said patents by the United States; which said sum of ten thousand dollars shall be in full satisfaction of all claims for such use and infringements and for the relinquishment of all right to claim any further compensation for the use of the same by the United States.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That Louis Weber, of Fauquier Springs, Virginia, be, and he is hereby, declared to be entitled to the benefits of the Acts of August fourth and fifth, eighteen hundred and fifty-four, as to reenlistment pay during his last service, from August twenty-fifth, eighteen hundred and sixty-four, to July ninth, eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, in the United States Marine Corps. Proctor, of the county of Kings, State of New York, late a private in Company F, Ninetieth Regiment of New York Veteran Volunteers: Provided, That no pay, bounty, or other emoluments shall become due or payable by virtue of the passage of this Act. CHAP. 232.-An Act For the relief of J. V. Davis.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to pay to J. V. Davis, superintendent of the Alexandria (Virginia) National Cemetery, the sum of five hundred dollars, out of any moneys in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to reimburse him for personal property destroyed by fire, which loss was incurred in his efforts to save the property of the United States.

CHAP. 233.-An Act For the relief of Hugh C. Preston.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the accounting officers of the Treasury are hereby authorized and directed, in the settlement of the accounts of Hugh C. Preston, late first lieutenant, Thirty-first Infantry, United States Volunteers, to allow him credit for seven hundred and thirty-seven dollars and three cents, the same being the amount of funds of the United States stolen from his tent at Zamboanga, in the island of Mindanao, Philippine Islands, on or about December thirty-first, nineteen hundred, while he was acting as commissary of subsistence, in accordance with the finding of the board of survey.
