CHAP. 702.-An Act For the relief of Edward R. Stackable, collector of customs for the district of Hawaii.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to issue to Edward R. Stackable, collector of customs for the district of Hawaii, duplicates in lieu of three United States gold certificates issued under the Act of March fourteenth, nineteen hundred, series of nineteen hundred, numbered, respectively, six hundred and seventy-five, six hundred and seventy-seven, and six hundred and seventy-eight, for ten thousand dollars each, issued by the assistant treasurer of the United States at San Francisco, California, on January thirty-first, nineteen hundred and one, payable to the order of the Bank of Hawaii, Limited, Honolulu, Hawaiian Islands, and transferred by said Bank of Hawaii to said Edward R. Stackable as collector of customs in payment of customs duties, said certificates having been lost on the Pacific mail steamer Rio de Janeiro, which was wrecked in or near the har

bor of San Francisco, California, on the twenty-second day of February, nineteen hundred and one: Provided, That the said Edward R. Stackable shall first file in the Treasury a bond of indemnity in double the amount of the principal of said certificates, with good and sufficient sureties, to be approved by the Secretary of the Treasury, with condition to indemnify and save harmless the United States from any claim because of the lost certificates hereinbefore described.
