CHAP. 1072.-An Act Granting an increase of pension to Frances H. Anthony.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Frances H. Anthony, widow of De Witt C. Anthony, late lieutenant-colonel Twenty-third and colonel Sixty-sixth Regiments Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and pay her a pension at the rate of twenty dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving: Provided, how ever, That in the case of the death of the helpless child Myrtilia H. Anthony, on whose account the pension of Frances H. Anthony is increased, the pension of said Frances H. Anthony shall continue only at the rate of eight dollars per month from and after the date of death of said helpless child.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Navy be, and he is hereby, authorized and empowered to transfer Lieutenant Jerome E. Morse, of the retired list of the United States Navy, from the half-pay list to the seventy-five per centum pay list of R. S., sec. 1588, P. retired officers, under section fifteen hundred and eighty-eight of the Revised Statutes of the United States; and the said transfer shall take effect as of the passage of this Act.

Whitney, widow of Folliot A. Whitney. late major, Sixth Regiment United States Infantry, and pay her a pension at the rate of thirty-five dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving, and two dollars per month additional on account of the minor child of the said Folliot A. Whitney until he reaches the age of sixteen years.

Primrose, chairman of the board of trustees, and George T. Winston, president of the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, Raleigh, North Carolina, from all money responsibility for so much of the ordnance and ordnance stores issued to said college under its bonds dated May twenty-eighth, eighteen hundred and ninety-four, and February eighteenth, nineteen hundred and one, as were destroyed by fire on November twenty-ninth, nineteen hundred and one.

CHAP. 1092.-An Act For relief of Stanley and Patterson, and tc authorize a pay director of the United States Navy to issue a duplicate check.

Whereas it appears that Henry M. Denniston, pay director in the United States Navy, did, on the fifth day of February, nineteen hundred and one, make and issue a check, numbered four hundred and fifty-six thousand seven hundred and fourteen, bearing date of the said fifth day of February, nineteen hundred and one, upon the assistant treasurer of the United States at New York, in favor of Stanley and Patterson, for the sum of two thousand six hundred and eighty dollars and twenty-one cents, being in payment for electrical supplies furnished the United States Navy Department; and

Whereas said check was, on the said fifth day of February, nineteen hundred and one, mailed by the said Henry M. Denniston to Stanley and Patterson, at thirty-two Frankfort street, New York City, New York, and was lost in transmission through the mails and has never been received by the said Stanley and Patterson; and

Whereas the provision of the Act of February sixteenth, eighteen hundred and eighty-five, amending section thirty-six hundred and forty-six, Revised Statutes of the United States, authorizing United States disbursing officers and agents to issue di plicates of lost checks, apply only to checks drawn for two thousand ive hundred dollars or less: Therefore,

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United Stanley and Patter States of America in Congress assembled, That said Henry M.
