CHAP. 711.-An Act Granting a pension to Susan Kent.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension .laws, the name of Susan Kent, widow of John Kent, late of Captain Daniel's company, Florida Volunteers, Florida Indian war, and pay her a pension at the rate of eight dollars per month.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United Masch- States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Charles Maschmeyer, late of Captain Schwab's company Provisional Enrolled Missouri Militia, and pay him a pension at the rate of twelve dollars per month.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Jane Hale, widow of Samuel Hale, late of Company M, Fifth Regiment Michigan Volunteer Cavalry, and pay her a pension at the rate of eight dollars per month.

Bigelow, late acting assistant surgeon, United States Army, and pay him a pension at the rate of twelve dollars per month.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Washington T. Filson, late captain independent company, Caldwell County, Missouri, Home Guards, and pay him a pension at the rate of twelve dollars per month. Approved, February 19, 1903.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United [Private, No. 612.] States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Homer Davis, late of Company I, Second Regiment Indiana Volunteer Cavalry, and pay him a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving, the same to be paid to him under the rules of the Pension Bureau as to mode and times of payment without any deduction or rebate on account of former alleged overpayments or erroneous payments of pension. Approved, February 19, 1903.

CHAP. 718.—An Act Granting a pension to Peter Buckley.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Peter Buckley, late of Company E, Eleventh Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of ten dollars per month.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he hereby is, authorized and directed to pay the legal representatives of. representatives of John L. Young, of Union, South Carolina, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of one thousand four hundred and seventy-one dollars and eighteen cents, being for services rendered the United States in carrying the mails in eighteen hundred and sixty and eighteen hundred and sixty-one.

Kaempfer, widow of Samuel O. Kaempfer, late assistant surgeon, Two hundred and eighth Regiment Pennsylvania Pension to cease on Volunteer Infantry, and pay her a pension at the rate of eight dollars per month, such pension to cease upon proof that the officer is living. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That letters patent of the United States granted to Valdemar Poulsen, numbered six hundred ent issued to, not inand sixty-one thousand six hundred and nineteen, dated November valid. thirteenth, nineteen hundred, shall not be held invalid by reason of the lapse of more than seven months between the time of filing of his application for a patent in Denmark and the filing of his application for said United States patent; nor shall the lapse of said period of more than seven months debar him from the grant of a patent upon that portion of his invention which was divided out from his original application in this country under the rules of practice then prevailing in the Patent Office, but the patent which may be granted on said divisional application shall expire at the same time with the said letters patent numbered six hundred and sixty-one thousand six hundred and nineteen: Provided, That no person shall be held liable for any infringement of the patents herein referred to which may have prior infringement. occurred prior to the passage of this Act. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the sum of eighty-three Charles W. Carr. dollars and seventy-one cents be allowed to Charles W. Carr, former postmaster at Englewood, Illinois, being the amount deposited by him to cover a deficiency arising in his office in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-four, which deposit was made to cover a loss caused by the payment by a clerk of two forged money orders, numbered eleven hundred and sixty-six and fifteen hundred and forty-three, issued at Lansing, Michigan, on April seventeenth and May sixth, eighteen hundred and ninety-four, respectively, without blame or fault on the part of said Charles W. Carr; and that a sum sufficient to pay the allowance now made is hereby appropriated out of any money in the Treasury of the United States not otherwise appropriated.
