1. In a generic sense, it comprehends all
'the descendants of Jacob without dis-
tinction; in this sense it corresponds with
the name Jacob, which is sometimes em-
ployed to denote the seed of that pa-
triarch.

2. In a specific sense, it stands opposed1 to
the temporal kingdom of Judah, and it
'denotes the kingdom of the ten tribes. In
"this sense it corresponds with EphraimTM
and Samaria", both which names are
employed, in some cases, to denote the
kingdom of the ten tribes.

3. In a specific sense, coupled with Judaho,
it denotes all the children of Israel, the
whole seed of Jacob.

1. In a generic sense, it denotes the people
of Christ's kingdom without distinction.
2. In a specific sense, it is opposed to spi-
ritual Judah. In this sense, it corre-
sponds with Ephraim and Samaria3.
3. In a specific sense, coupled with Judah,
it denotes all the spiritual children of
Abraham, the universal church of Christ.

Thus Israel in its temporal application; temporal Jerusalem, or the "Jerusalem which now is;" the remnant of the temporal Judah, or the temporal Jews; stand opposed to, generic Israel, used in a spiritual sense; spiritual Judah; spiritual Jerusalem, "new Jerusalem," "Jerusalem which is above," "heavenly Jerusalem;" the spiritual Jews; the church, or kingdom of Christ.

The prophecies which foretell the re-establishment of dominion in Jerusalem and Zion relate to the establishment of " the heavenly Jerusalem;" the new Jerusalem being the spiritual kingdom of Christ: "Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it, with judgment and with justice, from henceforth even for ever"," "The Lord of hosts shall reign in mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before His ancients, gloriously." "They shall call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord, and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem." "And thou, O
